App.: Deep brown-black with a tan rim. Aroma: Nice slightly tangy black coffee with some dark chocolate notes, hints of molasses, licorice and grapes. Palate: Medium body, fairly lively carbonation (odd). Flav.: More chocolate, lots of black coffee, fruity, molasses, some leafy hopes, nice; dry with some bitterness and a slightly tangy black coffee finish.

Quite competent.

Draught at Volo. Pours dark brown, almost black, with an average size diminishing creamy tan head. Nice lacing. Aroma of roasted malt along with a good amount of chocolate and some coffee. Flavour’s dry and roasty along with chocolate, mild lactic notes and coffee. Dry bitter finish. Average to medium bodied. Good stuff, a solid version of the style.

mabel (5805) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - APR 4, 2010
UPDATED: APR 25, 2012 [2817-20100401] Tap. Coffee roast and mild wood bark aroma. Clear, black brown body with a long-lasting foamy light brown head. Long roasty coffee flavour has an odd sour fishy note afterward, plus some bark and wood notes. Medium-full body. Yum at first, but shouldn’t have sat it in the sun.
(@ Volo; Toronto, ON)

[4332B-20120312] Tap. Roasty dry wood aroma. Black body with a quick foamy light brown body. Roasted boozy burnt toast flavour has a lingering burnt wood booze aftertaste. Full body has fairly noticeable alcohol. Tasty, lots of roast. (7/3/7/3+/14) 3.4
(Initially labelled "English Stout" @ Volo, Toronto, ON)
