1.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 5/20 ectuohy27 (396) - ESTONIA - MAR 19, 2013
A fairly poor imitation of a style I don’t like anyway :) It’s too thin, unbalanced, and watery for the type (despite the 5.2% abv); some candied sweetness on the foretaste, rusty hoppiness throughout
2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 HandsomeBaldy (4) - - FEB 2, 2013 does not count
Bottle. Appearence is quite nice, dark amber color. White head. Bittery taste, left a slight "soapy" aftertaste in mouth. Will probably not buy again anytime soon.
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 Miksu (4570) - Jyväskylä, FINLAND - OCT 4, 2012
0.5 l bottle, thanks hanniku! Copper color. Sweet aromas of caramel, resins and pepper. Caramelly and bready flavor with some breadiness and malt husks. Medium bitterness which is not very soft. Medium body. Tastes like half English pale and half bready lager.
2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 Senka (120) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - SEP 28, 2012
This is not a good example of English Pale Ale, but one of the good ones that brewed locally in Baltic states. If you want to compare it to UK, you will be disappointed. Good with roast lamb/pork on a weekend brunch.
2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 kingstoni (784) - FINLAND - JUL 27, 2012
Bottle. Mostly clear medium dark copper color with no head. Some fruitiness in overall mild aroma. Mild fruity taste. It’s quite watery for an ale. There’s something missing from the package.
2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 HopfenWeisse (680) - - JUN 25, 2012
500ml bottle from supermarket. Amber colour with small head. Sweet, malty, caramel. Not as bad what is was expecting.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 estpiwo (1094) - ESTONIA - MAY 19, 2012
Bottle. Amber body, short white foam. Floral aroma. Taste was little bit sweet ( taste was like Puls Märzen), there was also some hops. I must say again: like mixture of common Puls brew and ingredients for home made ale.
2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 suurjuust (618) - ESTONIA - MAY 13, 2012
I have a feeling that this could be a half way decent beer, but the decent part is buried under the trademark Viru rubbery-metallic harsh grains. Somewhat drinkable when cold, but as it warms up, the Viru-nasty begins dominating the taste.
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 FatPhil (7597) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - MAY 9, 2012
500ml bottle (?, Tallinn) - shared by Marduk - thanks!
Smell has the Viru fingerprint. Iron, and some messy earthy malts. Mid orange, very brief head. Messy malts, touch corny, sourish, sulfury (Anna says farty), tangy dirty hops, maybe a little nettley. Palate quite full, smooth, OK carbonation. Finish quite sweet and corny, but the hops in it are quite harsh, and though I like the bitterness, it’s a bit astringent and chemical, caustic. A bit messed up, in some ways a bit greene kingy in many ways.
