3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 reebtogi (1524) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - NOV 4, 2011
341ml bottle pours a pale golden color with a finger and a half of white head with decent retention that leaves some thin lacing on side of glass. Aroma is light grain and hops with blueberries. Taste is blueberries with a light malty sweetness and a light hoppy bitterness with a trace of pepper rounding things out. Light to medium body and soft carbonation finish things off. A fruit beer done just the way I like them.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 16/20 Metalchopz (1173) - Quebec, CANADA - OCT 5, 2011
Originally rated February 2006. Thanks to Plug for bringing this one back directly from the brewpub. Pours a slight hazy golden pale yellow-copper colour with a good creamy white head. Retention is excellent and thick foamy lace is all around. A beautiful bouquet of blueberries is let out for the aroma. Hints of pepper and honey are there too. The mouthfeel is watery with a thin body. Blueberry purée is present in the taste, but not as much as in the smell. Not too sweet, but with the touch of pepper. Bitterness is very light in the aftertaste. Served with real blueberries in the glass at the brewpub itself. Reminds me of the Polish brew Lezajsk Pelne which is not a fruit beer, but is real close to this one with the blueberries and pepper. A real good experience.
1.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20 kevinsenn (175) - Waterloo, Ontario, CANADA - SEP 25, 2011
UPDATED: SEP 26, 2011 From the basket of singles at the LCBO, thought I’d give it a try. Pours extremely pale yellow - where’s the blue? - with no head. Aroma is full of blueberries, and is very nice. The taste is where this beer fails to deliver. Watery and grassy, with some blueberry flavour. The underlying ale isn’t all that strong, so it could’ve done with some more blueberry. Finishes off with a slightly metallic aftertaste. Not the worst, but not something I’d buy again.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Lanchester (136) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - SEP 8, 2011
Pours a pale, slightly hazy straw hue, topped with a thin ring of white head clinging to the glass. Aroma is grainy and grassy, with a pleasant intertwining of blueberry wafting about. In comparison to other examples of the style, this is a solid achievement. Smooth grainy flavor is abruptly tapered off by a sharp albeit subtle acidity, following through on the sweet side with blueberry aromatics. Palate is thin, though the soft carbonation seems to compliment it. Overall, this is an above average fruit beer; blueberries are certainly a challenging ingredient and this should be appreciated while sipping away.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 rejtable (359) - Ontario, CANADA - AUG 4, 2011
On tap from brewery, served with the cheesy blueberries floating in it. Solid pale ale with very present sweet blueberry. Blueberry always tastes real, not candy though. Not much else to be had here, but you could do way worse on a hot summer day.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 HeistAlmighty (471) - Saint John, New Brunswick, CANADA - JUL 10, 2011
Draft at Saint John Ale House. They float fresh blueberries in the beer if they are in season. Smells and tastes like blueberries so if you like them then this is great. The beer under the blueberry is a little bland so the berry flavour is pretty much the whole show. A decent enough gimmick.
