Reddish brown. White ring head. Light lacing. Caramel aroma with caramel, vanilla and oaky taste. Little bit of whiskey in the taste too almost like thia is barrel aged.

Appearance: A clear red and brown colored beer. An off-white head.
Overall: A sweet and malty ale. Not very exciting.

Thin, beige-colored head on draught pour in bar/water glass. No discernible aroma on the nose, or lacing on the glass. Light carbonation, some roasted nut flavor, but overall underwhelming and forgettable.

A dark reddish copper ale with a tin light moka head. In aroma, a smooth sweet caramel malt with light cinnamon notesm and grassy peaty notes. In mouth, a sweet malt with light off notes, nutty, light chocolate, but so-so. On tap at brewpub, July 4, 2011.

Brownish-amber. The aroma is all butter. Tastes like BC beer - thin, buttery, slightly tart and maybe a hint of toasty malt. Not what Iím looking for in a Scottish Ale.

Draft @ brewpub. Dark amber brown with lasting cap. Aroma is very buttery, like buttered brown bread and is just within the realm of tolerability. Oily palate. The butter gives too much slickness and detracts from what could obviously be a good brew. The malt character is nice. If only the Pump Room would clean their tap lines, their beers might actually taste the way they should...

Draught at Pump Room, Singapore. Copper with a medium white head. Aroma and flavour of toast, caramel sweetness and toffee. Agreed that itís hopped up for a scottish ale and the over bitterness spoils this beer. Medium bodied. Finishes dry and bitter.

On tap at brewput. My least favourites of the Pump Room beers. Dark brown, some spice, lots of malt, overly bitter finish.

UPDATED: FEB 27, 2009 Decent roasted malt aroma. Medium body. Just about right balance of hops aroma and bitterness. Starts rough but finishes sweet. Seems to leave a fragrant sort of malty aftertaste immediately after you take a swig. Itís not altogether eye-catching but, I guess thatís besides the point. This brew taxes my throat somewhat and I would not reccomend it on a warm day. However, itís a good booster after a hard dayís toils. Really perks you up - donít know why though.

After a week of drinking Scottish ales in Scotland, I couldnít resist this Singapore take on the style. The verdict: close but no cigar. A bit like Mel Gibsonís accent in "Braveheart". Itís a fair approximation but doesnít quite hit the target. It looked the part, slid down well but lacked the lightness of touch and fruitiness of the Scottish ales. There was nothing terribly wrong with it, but little to get excited about. Tawny colour, lighty malty aroma with some Highland toffee. Light to medium in body. Bit heavy on the hops for a Scottish ale. Dry finish. (Draught at brewpub)
