3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Drafted at the brewery.I’ve had this on two different occasions now, both times at the brewery.I found it to be dry and lacking the fruitiness and bitterness that I enjoy from an IPA..Don’t get wrong,it’s a pretty good beer, but I just thought it lacked flavor..Sorry Fil :)

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap in the brewpub in Cernice, near Plzen. Amber/ruby in colour. Stipped back hoppy aroma, great in the mouth, malty and bitter. Not as aggressively hopped as many Czech versions of IPA (in the American style) but still a good one. Prefer some fruitier notes, but a great beer overall.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: APR 24, 2012 on tap at the brewpub, good friday 2012 - not exactly sure why they picked easter as the time to serve their first ipa alongside their new april bock, but i’m not complaining since usually their specials are stuff like mojito and cannabis beers. this delight was served in an elegant 0.4 litre chalice which highlighted its rich, bright ruby amber with a never-say-die off-white head. there was a rich aroma of white toast with loads of butter and strawberry rhubarb jam, along with pine needles. a full and slightly jammy mouthfeel combined well with a biscuity malt character. there was some restrained tropical fruit salad sweetness cut short by a raspingly bitter finish. i had to go back for seconds, i just hope they put this on at least semi-regularly; whereas many czech ipa’s really go all out with the u.s. hops, purkmistr’s example feels pared back but with nothing lacking. more excellent stuff from purkmistr who, besides having the best food of any czech brewpub i know and the best beer festival (slunce ve skle) have really lifted things a notch in the brewing department.
i had a few more glasses to try and test my theory that somewhere in america i’d had another ipa which is its doppelgaenger and finally got it: bridgeport ipa. a dead ringer
