Cask (GBBF2011, Thursday)
Sweet honey aroma. Very malted barley oriented. Touch of wooliness in the mouth, but mostly sweet malts. Dry late finish is good. Honey keeps popping up.

crisp and clean. poured a clear wheat yellow, almost largery. head was firm and white until the final mouthful. slight aroma of hops, but no a more general sense of crisp cleanness! quite thin in the mouth but the carbonation was nice. the bitter was slightly too aggrasive for me, but nevertheless a very good beer. cask. Cask. Medium straw, thin white head. Hoppy aroma, lemon zest, yeast, malt, wheat (?), faintly earthy. Dry, light to medium bodied, medium bitterness. Malty, hoppy taste, yeast, citrus, straw, lemon, earth. Refreshing. (2011-08-05)

[Cask at Y Branwen, Harlech] Golden amber with a large white head. A vague fruitiness, and a smattering of flowers in the dry finish, but it’s rather thin and there’s not a lot to it. Their Snowdonia Ale was better.

Cask @ The Bon Accord. Mild tropical fruit aroma. Golden colour. Flavour citrus fruits with a hint of vanilla. Bitter aftertaste. Good one.

Cask-conditioned at the Seven Stars, Bristol 1/11/10. Deep gold with a slight white head. Sweetish aroma of apricot with a whiff of diacetyl and some grassy hops. Easy drinking, with more fruit, cereal malts and a decent bitter finish. Ok, despite the butterscotch.

Bottle 500 ml from Thirst for Beer in Pwllheli (Wales). Pale orange, somewhat flat. Beer fruity, floral fragance with citrus and hops. Body malty and bitter, it is balanced between the both. Woody keys and of yeast. Hopped end, fairly long, which leaves a good bitterness coated with lemon.

Bottle from Conwy Fine Wines: filtered but not pasteurised by the looks of it. It’s not often a bottled 4.2% British beer turns up that genuinely captures the lipsmacking freshness of a cask ale, but here’s one. Unpromising lager looks with a bleached white collar; aroma beautifully hoppy and fresh; slightly mouldering tangerine, pear, lily, vanilla and resiny hopsack- all good things. Crisp and fresh with tangerine and flowery hop tipping into a cashew and cream cracker-accented malt aftertaste. Perfect interweaving of hops and malt, the latter dominating beautifully long after the swallow. Some nettles and Rich Tea dunked in Darjeeling; JHB and TT spring to mind, but this has got more personality and balance than either. If I’d have realised it was this good, I would have stocked up. Total pleasure from first sip to last. Rare, rare beast- and certainly no moose.
