3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
500ml bottle from Ship in a Bottle. Near-black coloured body. Fawn-coloured head reduced to a patchy surface. Fragile lacing to the glass. Roasted, almost burnt, dark malty nose, hints of dark chocolate. The taste profile contains roasted malts, anise and ash (moss bog, perhaps) followed by a bitter ending of dark fruits. Quite well bodied. Pleasing stout (relaxing at my hotel room in Liverpool, 08.04.2013).

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Black with a cream foam. Aromas are light coffee with chocolate and weetabix. Earthy with blackberry and liquorice. Floral with spritzy yeast and low lemon. Flavours are roasted malts with nutty, berry notes. Dark chocolate and lemon bitterness with floral and lightly soapy aspects. Quite sweet and herbal with an earthy, dry finish. Tasty for it’s modest strength.

Cask conditioned Handpump Wig & Pen Northampton. A near black beer with an off-white head and lacing. Perfumed parma violet like sweetness in this with heather notes. Delicate fruitiness. Very low on roasty malts. Ridiculously easy to drink.
