Tap at the Sacramento venue. Pours nearly black with a creamy beige head. Brown sugar aroma. Flavor is biter with a touch of heat.So bitter the brown sugar is background. Malty yet bitter. Heat sort of dissipates. Excellent.

Bottle shared by alexsadad06. Poured clear dark brown in color with an average white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate dark fruit, malt and herbal hop aroma. Moderate smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium complex sweet flavor to medium dark sweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met with a complex beer.

12 ounce bottle from State Line Liquors. Pours a dark reddish brown color with a thin frothy tan head. Fair head retention. Aroma of toffee, some mild toast and a bitter hop finish. The taste is toffee, treacle, almost chocolatey and a bitter citrus hop finish. Medium bodied, bitter hop finish, Solid beer.

Sample at the Seattle brewpub. Dark copper-amber color with a medium light beige head that dissipates slowly. Small patches of lacing on the glass. The aroma is malty with some dark fruit notes. Full-bodied with a rich caramel malt character and flavors of hops and ripe fruit. The finish is sweet with up front and leaves a piney hops aftertaste. Above average overall.

Bottle:   Deep reddish caramel, moderate tannish head, frothy, little lacing.   Rich bready nose, musty caramel, not too hoppy.   Doesn’t seem too sweet, moreso a figgy/bready example... and a little rough/young at that.   Whats funny is I tried looking up the 5000 Year example they did years ago... not on RB.   I had that years after it was done, and it was very sublime.   I can’t help but wonder if this is the same beer yet just a young/juevenile example.   A little biting, body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Could stand to let sit for a bit before drinking.   Not too hoppy or overly malty, but instead just a sense of green and alcohol.   Needs some time to develop.   I have one bottle left that maybe I will let sit for 5 years.   Not bad, but very green!

Sample from a 12oz bottle, thanks to alexsdad06 for sharing. Hazier dark red / brown color. Little khaki head. Some dots of lace. Grape juice, dark fruit, little chocolate, cough syrup, raisin. Bitter sweet taste. Bigger body, but smooth lighter carbonation. Dry finish. Only a little warmth. Goes down easy, for a barleywine.

Dark in coor, clear with a thin head. Lots of malt flavors lighter than I would expect most barley wines. Was hoping for more of a umph. The alochol was not as high as I would excect also.

12 oz. bottle from 5000. Pours a deep amber/copper color with a small beige head. The aroma is sweeter toffee and caramel malts, some dark fruits with a touch of herbal hops. The flavor is again very malt forward with caramel and toffee being prominent. Some dark fruit that is on the ripe side and light herbal hops. Pretty one dimensional, but decent. Hides the abv pretty well.

This nailed the aroma but was a bit flat in the appearance. The flavor was a good sticky sweet with the right heft to the body, but was unfortunately just a bit too obvious in the alcohol for me. Surprised. in a good way.

12oz bottle. Deep thick brown-red. Thin, oily beige head steadily rims the glass. Sweet big malt aroma. While there is some serious resiny hop action, this is pretty malt forward, letting the thick, rich malt tones shine. Relatively straightforward and well executed. Dry, cherry wood tones. Full bodied, but hides the alcohol well.
