3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 MikeJslc (468) - Utah, USA - APR 30, 2013
Dark brown, clear, beige head. Aroma of caramel, some toast, cocoa, and piney-resiny hops. Flavor of grainy malt with chocolate, some caramel sweetness, dry cocoa, resiny hop bitterness.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 glennmastrange (1884) - hobe sound, Florida, USA - APR 30, 2013
Bottle. Moderate dark bread and roasted for the malt, moderate to heavy pine resin for the hops, light dough for the yeast, with hints of wood, pepper and cardboard. Head is huge, frothy turning rocky like whipped cream, light tan with excellent lacing and is annoyingly fully lasting. Color is clear dark brown. Flavor is moderately acidic to start, then finishes lightly to moderately acidic and moderately bitter. Palate is on the lighter side of medium, dry with a lively to fizzy carbonation. Other than the monstrous head this Black IPA was a real pleasure to drink.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 5000 (4962) - Hardened Liver, Washington, USA - APR 28, 2013
Bottle:   Deep brown, with some copper and ruby highlights, moderate to large foamy beige head, so-so lacing.
Seems like a well balanced hop nose with a roasted malt background.   Minor earth, and even softer cow pasture.
Hoppy up front, moreso than roasty but its there.   Slightly acrid, but not too strong.   In terms of hops and
roastiness, its moderate.   Neither trys to outdo the other.   The astringency I could do without tho.   Body and
mouthfeel are moderate.   Slight metallic note on the backside.   Very pithy too.   Its okay, but its a little
rough without being strong on the flavors that need to be.   I had this on draught before an M’s game this summer and I
thought it was much better, roastier and smoother.   I guess I had higher hopes for this bottle.

Bottle. Very dark brown pour with a creamy head. Some citrus and pine on the nose. Medium smooth palate, a little bittersweet on the finish. Not bad at all.
2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 7/20 CJack (16) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - APR 22, 2013
Swing and a miss for me. Bottle poured up nice and dark with modest head and decent lacing. (So far so good..) Funky aroma like prunes - complex but not necessarily pleasant. Taste is all bitterness as the high-alpha acids dominate all the way through the finish. The "Discord" is aptly named, as the parts seem to working against each other here, with unsatisfying results.

12 oz bottle. Dark dark brown with a light tan head and lacing. The aroma is citrus fruity, roasted malts and light chocolate. Medium body with a creamy soft feel. The flavor is roasted, bitter, and piney with some smoke/ash. Bittersweet and dry with an odd finish.
3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 adnielsen (6152) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - APR 11, 2013
Bottle @ home picked up at Wilbur’s Fort Collins. Pours a deep brown/black appearance with a dark brown head. Fairly spicy and resiny hoppy forward, a bit piney, burnt chocolate aroma. Fairly bitter, a bit smoky, very roasty, burnt malty, chocolate, somewhat caramelized malty flavor with a lot of bitterness on the finish along with some pine. Not my favorite but drinkable.
3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 trujahwarrior (259) - Monroe, Washington, USA - APR 7, 2013
Pours a dark brown color with a thick tan head that leaves awesome lacing. Smells of roasted malt, citrus and pine. Tastes of all the same things with a little chocolate flavor in the aftertaste. Mouthfeel is medium to heavy and slightly chewy with decent carbonation and a dry finish. Pretty good, but kind of average for a black ipa.
