COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A growing style in the Northwest, Dark IPA’s feature all the tasty attributes of a standard IPA, yet juxtaposed against a black malt canvas. Discord is not short on character, with a prominent malt profile that meets up with the bitterness and hop presence from five different hops. A variety of roasted malts provide color and flavor, yet this beer has a lighter body reminiscent of an IPA, not heavy like a porter or stout.

Poured into a tulip, very dark appearance and tan head. Not much from the aroma other than malt and hops, though it had a much more robust profile of the malts and hops than other IPAs. Taste was mostly bitter with a long finish and thin slick mouthfeel. An interesting IPA with less of the massive hop flavor.

Aroma is very weak. Slightly malty but nothing really stands out. Pretty disappointing considering this is a good beer. The appearance is unique. It looks like pepsi but when held up to a light it reveals a nice crimson opaqueness. Taste is a bit insipid really. but still pleasant. A very decent representation of the style but it’s a bit watery tasting. Flavors of burned bacon, hoppy bitterness etc. yeah this one isn’t really standing out to me. Decent beer for the buck.

Bottle. Pours a clear amber with small off white head. The aroma is floral hop and pine. Medium mouthfeel with a strong bitter hop and long lingering dry finish. A good black IPA from Pyramid.

Dark in color with a very slight reddish color. Good clean head with adequate foam retention which is expected for an IPA. Very distinct hoppy taste. A slight aftertaste detracted from the overall experience.

12 oz bottle. Dark reddish brown with a foamy, light tan head. Aroma is floral, chocolate, citrus with some mineral qualities. Flavor starts with bitter hops and dry cocoa with some malt sweetness and a mineral finish. Medium body with average carbonation and a dry mouth feel. This is not so good, not really balanced and an odd mineral quality.

Bottle. Pours a clear brownish color with a thin tan head. Nice, roasted hoppy aroma. Smoky taste. Roasted malt. Fairly complex flavor. Nothing much else, but one of the better Pyramid’s that I have had.

Pours a dark brown. Initial aroma is good. Aromatic hop wafts out of the glass. Initial taste is a little thin to me. But then it grows on me. Getting a nice slight citrus note amidst the light black malt taste. More a dark pale ale to me.

Deep brown appearance with an average size off white head and decent lacing. Subdued aroma of roasted malts and piney hops. Really like the mouthfeel, skewed more toward the earthy, resinous, citrusy hops, with a modest nod to toasty malts, before balance is achieved in the aftertaste. Nicely carbonated with a medium length finish. Affordable, available and worth trying again.

~Strong piney, woody, resinous hop aroma with light licorice and roasted grain. ~Pours a very deep blackish garnet color with small creamy off white head. ~Wood, resinous hop flavor with roasted grain. Well balanced. ~Med body, med CO2, lingering hop finish. ~Enjoyable brew

After giving it a good look and sniff, I thought this would be a winner. After drinking it, I think it got 4th place, no medal.
