Poured from 12 oz bottle into nonic glass. Appearance: pours a 2" cream colored head which recedes slowly. Plenty of lacing. Color is a reddish-brown with streaming carbonation and sediment in suspension. Aroma: rich roasted barley malt, cocoa, a bit of coffee, and some herbal hops. Mouthfeel: light to medium bodied somewhat sticky mouthfeel with a dry, somewhat astringent finish. Flavor: rich caramel, chocolate, some coffee, hops are not powerful, but they linger in the finish. There is also alcohol that warms the finish and the throat. Overall: a well done and tasty doppelbock.

COMRADEJOSH (260) - Ft Hood, Texas, USA - JAN 12, 2014
Aroma is of sweet malt. Taste is of toasted malt and caramel. Very warming on the aftertaste but something still missing. Like this is just a little to bitter for style or a little on thin side. Not bad but better doppelganger out there.

Bottle. Toasty, grape & raisin taste, with a sharp slightly bitter finish. Not bad, but nothing special.

poisoneddwarf (1616) - Rathdrum, Idaho, USA - JAN 3, 2014
12 oz bottle from the winter variety pack. Aroma is bready, roasty, dark fruit. Pours hazy dark amber with a collapsing beige head. Taste is sweet, savory and a little tart with flavors of licorice, metal, bread, caramel. The metal offnote goes away after a few minutes, leaving a pretty decent tasting brew. Creamy and medium-bodied. Not too bad, even with its flaws.

Bottle:   Ruby in color, deep copper hue, thin to moderate sandy head, a bit sudsy, little lacing.   Soft biscuit and bready nose, slightly mealy.   Caramel, biscuit, bready, with a little bit of dark pitted fruit.   Slightly toasted malts too.   Tastes better than it smells.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   A bit of a husky malt finish, light sweetness, bready, a touch of caramel and dark pitted fruit.   Not bad, not watery like I thought it was going to be, fairly clean, but nothing too heavy.   Slightly lighter example of the style I would say.

Pretty crisp, great mouthfeel, decent overall beer. Surprising hoppiness for a dopplebock. Great piney and grassy notes. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From bottle to wine glass. Moderate malt on the aroma. Biscuit. Clear chestnut with full white head. The flavor is moderately low malt with faint dark fruit. No alcohol warming. Beer finished with a medium-thin mouthfeel and quickly. Expected much more malt.

Bready, malty toffee aromas. Pours a brilliant copper brown with ruby highlights nice dense foam and great lacing. More of the same in the flavor with a touch of roast and chocolate pretty tasty.
