Tap at the Berkeley venue. Pours dark brown with a slight beige head. Aroma is very roasty darkish malt. Med + body. Flavor is moderately dark malty, earthy, surprisingly dry. It’’s malty, but not very sweet at all. Not really bitter either. It’s a good drink.

Tap. Pours hazy deep reddish chestnut, small beige head, sine lacing. Aroma is super light, a bit of roasty and dark bread. Flavor is medium sweet, light plus bitter, roasty, dark bread, a bit nutty, kind of acidic, faintly smoky. Lightish body. Not bad.

A very nice doppelbock. Pours a beautiful deep red with a thick white head. Smells of salted caramel. Taste has more salted caramel, a nice bit of maltiness that isn’t overdone, and more sea salt in the finish. Had on tap at the Brewery for SF Beer Week.

Transfer from BA review on 12-6-13- Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance – The beer pours a chestnut brown color with a two finger of foamy tan colored head. The head has a decent level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave a nice level of lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma is strongest of a roasted malt smell mixed with a light caramel sweetness. Along with these aromas is a rather nutty smell as well as rather decent showing of graininess. Taste – The taste begins some sweeter caramel as well as a rather decent level of a roasted malt taste. Some other sweeter flavors come onto the scene as the flavor advances, with some apple and molasses joining the taste. This combination of flavors is rather odd overall with it getting even more unique as the taste advances to the end due to some other favors joining in. The flavors that join in at the end consist of some nutty flavors, a coffee flavor, as well as a lighter herbal hop flavor, which when combine with the rest, leave a rather oddly formulated but in some ways somewhat enjoyable sweet, roasty and bitter flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the averages to slightly thicker side in terms of thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is average. The slightly thicker body is very nice for the nutty, roasted, and sweeter caramel flavors of the brew all while the average carbonation does well to keep it very drinkable Overall –Initially I wasn’t really enjoying the beer too much, but after drinking more of it I grew on me. Maybe it was the warming of the beer over time, or just an appreciation of the mix of flavors. Regardless of what it was, and while not the greatest dopelbock out there, it is worth a try

Dark brown with red tint, filtered but dark enough that cant see through it, malty sweetish taste with herbal and hoppy bites, tasty especially for fall

Bottle from the fall mix pack. Nose actually comes off as quite nutty to me, with a fair amount of caramel and a bit of toasting to it. Taste is a little sweet, but has some nuttiness and toasting to balance it out. Drinkable.

Poured from 12 oz bottle into nonic glass. Appearance: pours a 2" cream colored head which recedes slowly. Plenty of lacing. Color is a reddish-brown with streaming carbonation and sediment in suspension. Aroma: rich roasted barley malt, cocoa, a bit of coffee, and some herbal hops. Mouthfeel: light to medium bodied somewhat sticky mouthfeel with a dry, somewhat astringent finish. Flavor: rich caramel, chocolate, some coffee, hops are not powerful, but they linger in the finish. There is also alcohol that warms the finish and the throat. Overall: a well done and tasty doppelbock.

Aroma is of sweet malt. Taste is of toasted malt and caramel. Very warming on the aftertaste but something still missing. Like this is just a little to bitter for style or a little on thin side. Not bad but better doppelganger out there.

Bottle. Toasty, grape & raisin taste, with a sharp slightly bitter finish. Not bad, but nothing special.
