The standard by which all other wheat beers are judged. Our deliciously deranged American-Style Hefeweizen is an award winning take on this Bavarian classic. This refreshingly unfiltered wheat ale delivers a distinctively smooth flavor worth sharing with friends.

No acid high tones, flat, no yeastiness or other character builders, a sad, empty commercialized beer from a weakened macro micro.

Sadly one of the weaker American wheats. Like some other raters stated, this beer lacks the complexity of itís German counterparts.

UPDATED: APR 5, 2008 Bottle. Head is initially small, fizzy/frothy, white, mostly diminishing. Body is hazy dark yellow, bottle conditioned. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain, husks), lightly hoppy (flowers), lightly yeasty (basement), with a note of detergent. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter, husky. Medium body, watery/syrupy texture, lively carbonation. Grainy, soapy, almost swill-like.

UPDATED: MAY 20, 2003 Hmmm. I expected a hefe out of this one and got little more than overpriced Budwiser. This seemed to lack the distinct sharpness of traditional German hefeweizen. Kinda tastes like sweat in a bottle, if you ask me. This has to be one of Pyramid's worst. Flavor is bland, and lacking. Aftertaste is malty, but sour. If there was such a thing as a light hefe, then this might be it. I'll stick to Hacker-Pschorr or Paulner- how hefeweizen should taste.

Boring. Nothing distinguishing or especially memorable. Uni-dimensional hoppiness.

Didn't expect a whole lot out of this beer, but I got even less than expected. Cloudy dark golden with off white head, slightly yeasy aroma, taste is moderately sour but very bland. Had a weistaphaner after having this and there was no comparison. This was closer to an american lager than a hefe to me. very disappointing.

I kind of like the cloudy look of the beer before I drink it. It makes me think maybe there are flavor crystals floating about. But upon tasting, itís probably just dirty wheat. No head, but plenty of fizz. Tastes of stale wheat and slight lemon zest. Donít get me wrong, there are worse things, but if your coming into this looking for flavor crystals, look elsewhere.

Had on tap in Los Angeles in some chain restaurant. Not bad orangey-blonde colour, not much on the nose but yeast, failry loose and sweet flavor structure, lacks citric solidity to prop up the flatness. A little too sticky-smooth and watery-sweet, lacking fruity or spicy hints or anything else of note - in short, I missed some character and flavor here. I didnít know what to think of this one - it was just an okay refreshing beer that I didnít crave a second round of. Maybe the sample was old and dis-integrating? There were no oxidation indicators, but wheat beer is a tricky thing whether German styled or otherwise. Better than some American wheats but bland.

Nothing special here. Typical cloudy yellow with a large head. Flavor was bland. Similar to Blue Moon. Go for something better.
