3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 trujahwarrior (284) - Monroe, Washington, USA - DEC 26, 2012Pours a pitch black color with a medium tan head that fades and leaves spotty lacing. Smell of roasted malts and oats. Tastes the same as it smells but not much oat flavor. Mouthfeel is pretty light for a stout. Overall this is just average at best for an oatmeal stout.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 vvesside (199) - California, USA - MAY 5, 2013
Not a bad stout. A friend grabbed a growler of this and brought it to a BBQ the other day. I didn’t expect too much from Pyramid, but was pleasantly surprised.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 haddon90 (1304) - Newport Beach, California, USA - APR 20, 2013
Bottle. Pours a deep black color with a thin, white head. Light aroma of roasted malt and a hint of oatmeal. Decent flavor. Smoked oatmeal with some malt as well. A little milky sense as well. Not bad but could have a lot more in this brew.
2.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 brenn79 (1224) - Idaho, USA - MAR 1, 2013
12 oz. bottle- Pours fairly black with almost no head, just a thin ring of foam around the edges. Aroma is roasted malts, some chocolate, some anise. The taste is weird, somewhat sour, caramel malts, moderately bitter, chocolate, oats, very odd. Body is thin especially for the style, carbonation is high. This beer is all over the place, I can’t believe Pyramid let this out of the brew house, this beer is a disaster.
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 6/20 chinchill (662) - South Carolina, USA - FEB 20, 2013
Poured from a 12oz bottle with "enjoy by 02/03/2013" on the label into a Unibroue goblet that had just before held a Sierra Nevada Beer Camp Oatmeal Stout. Pours dark brown/black with a large light tan head that had excellent retention.
Aroma: Belgian yeast (?!) and some mild toasted grain aroma.
T: Well, the "Belgian yeast" that seemed to be in the aroma clearly seems to be Brett; and I assume Brett contamination rather than an intentional introduction. Nonetheless, the Brett level is tolerable and the beer is drinkable. Hard to be more positive than that, however.
M: Slightly thin for style, but otherwise excellent, smooth feel with a fairly high level of carbonation for style.
O: Bad bottle? Bottle pulled from refrigerated storage only 2 weeks past enjoy by date, so any problems stem from bottling or earlier. Will revisit down the road.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 thetmaxx (673) - West Sacramento, California, USA - JAN 20, 2013
Poured from the winter pack. Aroma is lightly roasted and lightly chocolate. Flavor is very lightly chocolate. Palate is watery and there is no sign of oats at all! This has to be one of the worst oatmeal stouts I’ve ever had. My oatmeal stout is much better than this! Bleh!
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 bytemesis (1493) - Sunnyvale, California, USA - JAN 12, 2013
Ok, lets just stop shitting on the likes of pyramid just because we are supposed to. I mean, shit, i agree that the typical pyramid brew is not something to write home about, but they can still occasionally do something right. This is a pretty good oatmeal stout. If you can’t see that, ask yourself how it would fare in a blind rating. I won’t waste my time with my typical rating, cause no one gives a damn anyway. Just know that this beer ain’t bad. So there.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 poisoneddwarf (1341) - Rathdrum, Idaho, USA - JAN 11, 2013
12 oz bottle from the winter variety pack bought at Super 1 in CDA, ID. Pours dark dark brown to black with red highlights; has a medium collapsing beige head. Aroma consists of dough, bread, caramel, clove, licorice, coffee. Taste is a little sweet, but it’s more sour (I doubt this is intentional); finishes dry and bitter. There’s a little chocolate flavor in here. Oveall, it’s not too bad, but it’s pretty strange. The off-flavors aren’t off-putting, they’re just a little distracting.
1.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 6/20 GuilTTy (718) - Cherry Hill, New Jersey, USA - JAN 7, 2013
Bottle as part of their winter sampler pack. Medium chestnut brown pour under a short reddish tan head. Aroma of cocoa powder, anise, and day old coffee. My first impressin on tasting was to check the label to see if I’d poured a black lager. There are roadty, chocolatey flavors you’d expect of a stout but none of the rich or creamy texture you normally find in an oatmeal stout. Lacked any lasting sweetness in the finish as well.
I was looking forward to this one but it left me wanting for more. More flavor. More complexity. More texture.
3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 DMLINAZ (191) - Mesa, Arizona, USA - DEC 26, 2012
Part of a Pyramid variety 12-pack from Total Wine. I find most Pyramid above average to average; this falls on the average side, though there’s nothing wrong. Not a ton of flavor for the style. Some standard stout flavor, a little licorice, maybe a hint of oatmeal and coffee. Prickly carbonation for mouth feel. It seemed like there was more flavor colder.
