Ignition Series #2
Outburst Imperial IPA is a high-impact workout for the senses. A crafty combination of four different hops, and a dose of dry hopping, powers Outburst to 80 IBU strong. Its bold profile offers an aroma reminiscent of the Northwest hop fields at harvest time, along with spicy overtones of fresh citrus. Seeking a harmonious balance to the hop overload, weíve blended four different specialty malts to create a distinctive deep amber hue and sweet caramel and roasty flavors.

Bottle, this ale had a clear copper pour with a little red mixed in, and made a one finger faint off-white bubbled head, the glass was effervescent with many streams of medium flowing bubbles, this beer left spots and fingers of lacing on the sides of the glass, there were aromas of toasted malt, a little orange fruit, hops were citrus, a little grass and grapefruit with malt sweetness and some caramel, the malt was out front in this ale, while the hops were in the background, I noticed very faint alcohol on the nose in the background, the flavors were toasted malt and caramel with citrus, grass and grapefruit hops, the finish had some bitterness but I expected more hops from a IPA2 ale, I do not taste the alcohol but I did feel it drying my palate a bit, the mouth feel was medium or a little less, the alcohol dried my tongue a bit, I found this IPA2 to be a simple malty with the hops in the background.

12 oz. brown screw off bottle. I hate screw off bottles. But, Iíll digress. No freshness date seen, but I really didnít look for one anyway. Poured out a dark golden color, with a sticky tan head. Left a decent lacing down the sides of the glass. Aromas are of Nugget & Simcoe hops right off the bat. Pine tree, grapefruit, and roasted malts make up the bulk of the aromas & flavors. Alcohol is well hidden, but after 3-4 of these, you know itís there. Decent body & mouthfeel. Finished slick & smooth, not astringent as do most ultra hoppy beers. Decent take on the style. I would buy this again.

Bottle poured a clear amber with a small lingering amber head. Aromas of crackers, orange zest, mint, light grapefruit and light pine. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of crackers, grapefruit, orange zest, pine and light mint with a smooth dry bitter lingering grapefruit finish.

~Strong floral hop aroma with citrus and spice, sweet caramel malt backbone. ~Pours a slightly hazy orange amber color with no head. ~Fruity citrusy hop flavor, somewhat resinous, balanced with lots of sticky malt sweetness. ~Med full bodied with med CO2, lingering bitterness. ~Well balanced highly hopped brew.

Wow, it smelled like a glass of fresh squeezed grapefruit juice. The flavor is a well balanced IPA with some sweetness upfront and bitterness to finish. A very refreshing imperial IPA all around.

UPDATED: AUG 26, 2013 Bottle from BevMo. Strong pungent hop nose. Decent hop character. Flavor is a tad off. Good hoppiness. Good price point for an 8.5 sixer.

12oz bottle. Rating #123. Clear dark gold with some orange highlights and a nicely lacing white head. Citrus and a little pineapple which lends a little sweetness to it. Sweet and tropical flavor with more sweetness, pretty good stuff actually. (2244(

22 oz. bottle, pours a clear copper with a small off-white head. Aroma of piney hops, candied sugar and caramel malts. Flavour of dry piney hops and just enough malt to back - not the greatest mesh of flavours, but still decently balanced. Good.

Draft at special brews. Pours a crystal clear medium amber with a gorgeous dense and creamy tannish head. Mild otange peel nose. Creamy medium body with lively carb. Hugely acidic mid palate with pithy bite. Mild caramel undertones. Out of balance.

Bottled into a pint glass. Iíll drink this any day over any 60 or 90 overpriced IPA. Very well balanced hops and malt with citrus finish. Plus itís like a scavenger hunt finding this stuff outside a variety pack this year. Hoppy IPA hunting to all, WOO HOOOO!
