Ignition Series #2
Outburst Imperial IPA is a high-impact workout for the senses. A crafty combination of four different hops, and a dose of dry hopping, powers Outburst to 80 IBU strong. Its bold profile offers an aroma reminiscent of the Northwest hop fields at harvest time, along with spicy overtones of fresh citrus. Seeking a harmonious balance to the hop overload, we’ve blended four different specialty malts to create a distinctive deep amber hue and sweet caramel and roasty flavors.

Pour is a bright copper with a average white head. Aroma is some roasted caramel malt with a decent citrus hop. Flavor is excellent. A big thick oliy mouthfeel is followed by and intense fresh and flavorful hop. malts make a sweet appearance after the swallow that cuts some of the bitter hops. This is a real good beer and a nice price.

12oz bottle. Pours a clean golden amber with a smallish creamy white head that retains well and leaves some lacing.

The aroma is sweet caramel malts, some melon and a little resiny piney hops.

The flavor is crystal malts with a little fruit and some resiny piney hops with decent bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, a solid but not spectacular DIPA. Good value.

Pours clear amber orange with a thick beige head that has decent retention. Aroma of fresh citrus and floral hops with some dark fruit, herb, mint and resin in there too. Taste is pretty good, better than expected for Pyramid. Still something kind of strange on the finish. Bitterness is high but is a bit like chewing on a vine or something (not that I have ever done that, but it’s what I imagine it would be like.) Body is medium, lots of tiny bubbles for the carbonation. I can’t remember what I paid for the single but if a sixer of this was 7.99 or less, I would buy it every once in a while.

One of the great beer experiences is getting a huge surprise like this, when a beer far surpasses expectations. Big piney and citrus hops aromas accompanied by tropical fruit and a hint of mint. Sharp bitter resinous hops taste, plenty of grapefruit, lemon and orange, and a touch of tobacco. Medium body and carbonation and a finish that would cleanse the palate of anything.

Dark golden pour. Aroma of citrus, weed, pine and caramel malt. Flavor is sweet and malty, lots of hops on the finish. Pretty damn good.

UPDATED: MAY 20, 2011 Poured from bottle, a clear rich amber with moderate head. Aroma is a malty and the alcohol isn’t hidden very well. Not as refreshing as I had hoped...or should I say, hopped. ...thank you, I’m here all week.

Bomber served in a tulip. Clear amber-dark orange in color with a very short head when served chilled. Decent retention and lacing. Aroma is sweet oranges, light pine, and caramel. Very sweet, light bitter flavor. Malty attack. Medium body, average carbonatin, syrupy texture, and a bitter finish.

Exquisite bouquet of grapefruit peel, apricot, and tangerine. Clear copper, medium yellow head. Dry, perfumey, and resinous. Watery mouthfeel. Lots of grapefruit peel, orange peel, finishing a bit maltier. All in all a good beer, but as a friend of mine would say, "a bit like grandma’s perfume". It doesn’t need more sweet malt, it just needs less resin, which does improve with warming.

Pours a clear copper color. Little to no head on my pour. Decent hop aroma. Lots of hop flavor with citrus and grapefruit. A good amount of bitterness. I could sense the alcohol was a bit higher than an average beer but not really get any alcohol warming.
