Ignition Series #2
Outburst Imperial IPA is a high-impact workout for the senses. A crafty combination of four different hops, and a dose of dry hopping, powers Outburst to 80 IBU strong. Its bold profile offers an aroma reminiscent of the Northwest hop fields at harvest time, along with spicy overtones of fresh citrus. Seeking a harmonious balance to the hop overload, we’ve blended four different specialty malts to create a distinctive deep amber hue and sweet caramel and roasty flavors.

Pours amber with a medium white head. Aroma is dank and syrupy. Taste is very much the same as aroma. Heavy bitterness kicks in for the mid the quickly fades for an empty finish. Kinda like a dog that barks then runs when confronted.

12 oz bottle into a Chimay goblet. A: Pours a beautiful golden amber color. The head is a one finger eggshell shade. The texture is moderately bubbly yet soft, and the retention is okay. Decent stripes of lacing are left behind. Honestly, this one looks incredible in a glass. S: The hops start off rather piny, but quickly transform into a semi-aggressive rush of pineapple, peach, and apricot. There are some vague tropical hints, too. It also has a fairly prevalent malt backbone, though it thankfully lacks some of the more oppressive toffee notes some DIPAs can have. While it doesn’t quite challenge the elite aromas of the top-shelf DIPAs, it certainly provides a respectable nose. T: Honestly, I’m not quite sure what to make of the flavor profile. It opens up with a good rush of piny bitterness, while the middle and end is a combination of slight pineapple, sugary malts, some earth, orange marmalade, and a touch of mint. There’s a decent amount of depth to be found, and also a little booziness as well. It certainly isn’t hot, but it’s still a bit more prevalent than I like. Otherwise, this is an okay DIPA. M: Even among DIPAs, this is very prickly, astringent, and sharply carbonated. It’s dry, but not soft. The feel improves once the carbonation slows down, but also becomes a little more full bodied and hard to drink. Having said that, drinkability is pretty solid. O: Not bad, especially in the world of budget DIPAs. It seems oddly English-style, given its earthy, fruity, ever-so-slightly boozy flavor. This one is in the pile of "would drink again; wouldn’t buy again" beers.

2014-11-21. Dark orange amber body with a small beige head. 3+ Aroma of grainy cereal caramel malt, light hops. 6++ Flavour is similar, cereally caramel malt, light bitterness. 6+ Average plus body palate. 3+ just okay. Not super fresh but still kind of dull, hops fail to shine. Bottle from the LCBO, Toronto

Pours a clean deep amber colour with a creamy-foamy off-white head that stays quite a long time for an impy. Lacing is pretty good too. Aromas of grassy hops, sweet roasted malts and fruity notes. The roasted malts really come out in the taste with the grass blending things. Mild dryness that gets stronger as the hop lingers. A milder, well-balanced Impy IPA than most, that is not trying to be a hop-bomb.

Huge surprise. Copper color, nice white head. Aroma is pine and citrus Very strong hop presence. Not balanced, but really bitter. Hop heads will enjoy this and for 2.49 cents a bomber this may be the best deal out there.

Poured from bottle to glass. Golden hue with white head that settled. Aroma is pine, grapefruit, tangerine, citrus oil. Mouthfeel is great with a medium body and crisp carbonation. Taste is dry sweetness with a nice hop bitterness DNS slight ethanol finish. Overall this is a nice brew.

Pours a hazy deep amber colour with a small white head. Aroma of herbs and flowers. Taste matches the aroma with some Mandarin taste. Moderate carbonation. Nice lacing clings to the side of the glass.

Backlog rating on 9-14-2012 at Cap n’ Cork Covington Plaza, Fort Wayne, IN, beer tasting. This bottled beer has a small tan head that mostly diminishes, transparent golden body, very little carbonation, and spotty amounts of lacing. The aroma is caramel malt, crisp and citrus hops. The flavor mimics the aroma plus light bitter. The mouthfeel is sticky and this beer is medium bodied. This beer has a tasty hops flavor and the ABV is well masked. This beer is worth trying.
