COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ignition Series #2
Outburst Imperial IPA is a high-impact workout for the senses. A crafty combination of four different hops, and a dose of dry hopping, powers Outburst to 80 IBU strong. Its bold profile offers an aroma reminiscent of the Northwest hop fields at harvest time, along with spicy overtones of fresh citrus. Seeking a harmonious balance to the hop overload, we’ve blended four different specialty malts to create a distinctive deep amber hue and sweet caramel and roasty flavors.

Pineapple, caramel and a bit of spiciness. Really surprised by this offering from Pyramid. Lots of fresh hop flavor.

Caramel color with , floral, basement aromas. It finishes bitter with a, roasty grain note.

Metalchopz (2363) - Cantley, Quebec, CANADA - NOV 5, 2014
Pours a clean deep amber colour with a creamy-foamy off-white head that stays quite a long time for an impy. Lacing is pretty good too. Aromas of grassy hops, sweet roasted malts and fruity notes. The roasted malts really come out in the taste with the grass blending things. Mild dryness that gets stronger as the hop lingers. A milder, well-balanced Impy IPA than most, that is not trying to be a hop-bomb.

Huge surprise. Copper color, nice white head. Aroma is pine and citrus Very strong hop presence. Not balanced, but really bitter. Hop heads will enjoy this and for 2.49 cents a bomber this may be the best deal out there.

Poured from bottle to glass. Golden hue with white head that settled. Aroma is pine, grapefruit, tangerine, citrus oil. Mouthfeel is great with a medium body and crisp carbonation. Taste is dry sweetness with a nice hop bitterness DNS slight ethanol finish. Overall this is a nice brew.

Pours a hazy deep amber colour with a small white head. Aroma of herbs and flowers. Taste matches the aroma with some Mandarin taste. Moderate carbonation. Nice lacing clings to the side of the glass.

Backlog rating on 9-14-2012 at Cap n’ Cork Covington Plaza, Fort Wayne, IN, beer tasting. This bottled beer has a small tan head that mostly diminishes, transparent golden body, very little carbonation, and spotty amounts of lacing. The aroma is caramel malt, crisp and citrus hops. The flavor mimics the aroma plus light bitter. The mouthfeel is sticky and this beer is medium bodied. This beer has a tasty hops flavor and the ABV is well masked. This beer is worth trying.

"Clear deep orange pour w pillowy head. Spicy piney hop and sweet malty aroma. Seems a touch old 2 weeks before the sell by date. Feel and flavor are strong still, piney and a little citrus rind with some biscuit and caramel malts. Not bad...good enough to want a fresher one."

I’m not going to get into analogical madness with the description. Listen, I am sort of burnt out on the hundreds of cookie cutter west coast IPA’s. All hops and no malt make Jack a dull beer. I look for the perfect balance. Truth is, I love Pliny the Elder and I really enjoy 90 Minute and I love my friends home brews even more. I didn’t want to like a Pyramid brew but after three years, I keep buying this IPA. I am no longer an IPA fanatic as I’ve expanded my love of all styles but when I do want a beautifully balanced and aromatically scintillating IPA, I go to this wonderful 12 oz. don’t over analyze...just relish it.

What’s up with the dry IPA’S today, ah well fine I’ll say something on this. Into a tulip, the appearance is a ruddy orange color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated in about a minute. Some speckled lacing comes across in mild and messy sort of way. The smell started off with a roasty to somewhat burnt caramel aroma and only as it warmed there was some light citrus but for the most part, even that really stayed in the background. The taste was mainly sweet through the caramel malts. The citrus ends up escaping a bit on the taste. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. The carbonation seemed somewhat subdued and lead to a really dry effect on my tongue. Overall, this is a dry roasty caramel DIPA, does it fit the style...hmmm...maybe...would I have it again...hmm...maybe as a night cap.

Transfer from BA review on 3-8-13- Poured from bottle into a snifter Appearance – The beer pours a very nice orange color with some ruby highlights. Upon pouring there is only a tiny white head that fades almost instantly with very little lacing on the glass. Smell – The aroma is sweet of tropical fruit aromas. Lots of tangerine mango, papaya and banana are most prominent. Along with these fruit smells are smells of toffee and some bready malt with a lightly boozy aroma rounding them all out. Taste – The taste begins with a biscuit and light caramel flavor. With these flavors is a moderate grapefruit hop flavor that grows stronger as the taste moves on. While the caramel flavors fade after the initial taste some light tropical flavors of papaya and mango and some tangerine. These flavors are rather light and are soon subdued by a pine hop as well as a slightly boozy taste. A rather bitter and resinous pine and grassy flavor come to the tongue at the end largely taking over the taste to leave their mark on the tongue when all is said and done. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is rather average in its thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is rather average as well. Ok for the style although a slightly thicker body may have highlighted some of the hop taste more appropriately. Overall – A moderately good double IPA. The aroma was quite nice although it was a bit deceiving as the taste was more bitter and less fruit balanced as would have been perceived. It does however give a nice hoppy bite to the taste buds at the end of the taste and is rather enjoyable to drink overall.
