COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ignition Series #2
Outburst Imperial IPA is a high-impact workout for the senses. A crafty combination of four different hops, and a dose of dry hopping, powers Outburst to 80 IBU strong. Its bold profile offers an aroma reminiscent of the Northwest hop fields at harvest time, along with spicy overtones of fresh citrus. Seeking a harmonious balance to the hop overload, weíve blended four different specialty malts to create a distinctive deep amber hue and sweet caramel and roasty flavors.

Six-pack from local grocery. Dark orange/copper with minimal off-white head. Great aroma -- piney citrus dominate. Nice bitterness with a touch of sweetness, a long finish that coats your mouth. Just great!

Draft pour, and bottle poured probably a couple dozen times over the years. Canít believe I havenít rated this. Pours a copper color with a foamy head. Hoppy grainy aroma. Flavor is bitter, with some sweet hops mixed in. Finishes on another more bitter note. Always been a bit of a go to imperial for me. What can I say. Itís cheap, strong, and tasty. Iíll keep getting this.

Bottle. Pours a clear golden orange with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a decent amount of resin and grass with an earthy grain backbone. Flavor has notes of resin and pine with and a touch of earthy grain.

Bottle. Deep red-orange, off white head. Sweet pine, grapefruit, lightly caramelized malts, resinous and very bitter. Nice enough.

22 oz bottle pours gold and clear with a tiny white head. Aroma is sweet and very hoppy. Grassy, herbal, citrus and pine hop flavor. Good sweet malt backbone. A little caramel hint in the flavor. Altogether a very smooth and enjoyable IIPA.

Pours amber with a medium white head. Aroma is dank and syrupy. Taste is very much the same as aroma. Heavy bitterness kicks in for the mid the quickly fades for an empty finish. Kinda like a dog that barks then runs when confronted.

12 oz bottle into a Chimay goblet. A: Pours a beautiful golden amber color. The head is a one finger eggshell shade. The texture is moderately bubbly yet soft, and the retention is okay. Decent stripes of lacing are left behind. Honestly, this one looks incredible in a glass. S: The hops start off rather piny, but quickly transform into a semi-aggressive rush of pineapple, peach, and apricot. There are some vague tropical hints, too. It also has a fairly prevalent malt backbone, though it thankfully lacks some of the more oppressive toffee notes some DIPAs can have. While it doesnít quite challenge the elite aromas of the top-shelf DIPAs, it certainly provides a respectable nose. T: Honestly, Iím not quite sure what to make of the flavor profile. It opens up with a good rush of piny bitterness, while the middle and end is a combination of slight pineapple, sugary malts, some earth, orange marmalade, and a touch of mint. Thereís a decent amount of depth to be found, and also a little booziness as well. It certainly isnít hot, but itís still a bit more prevalent than I like. Otherwise, this is an okay DIPA. M: Even among DIPAs, this is very prickly, astringent, and sharply carbonated. Itís dry, but not soft. The feel improves once the carbonation slows down, but also becomes a little more full bodied and hard to drink. Having said that, drinkability is pretty solid. O: Not bad, especially in the world of budget DIPAs. It seems oddly English-style, given its earthy, fruity, ever-so-slightly boozy flavor. This one is in the pile of "would drink again; wouldnít buy again" beers.

2014-11-21. Dark orange amber body with a small beige head. 3+ Aroma of grainy cereal caramel malt, light hops. 6++ Flavour is similar, cereally caramel malt, light bitterness. 6+ Average plus body palate. 3+ just okay. Not super fresh but still kind of dull, hops fail to shine. Bottle from the LCBO, Toronto
