COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ignition Series #2
Outburst Imperial IPA is a high-impact workout for the senses. A crafty combination of four different hops, and a dose of dry hopping, powers Outburst to 80 IBU strong. Its bold profile offers an aroma reminiscent of the Northwest hop fields at harvest time, along with spicy overtones of fresh citrus. Seeking a harmonious balance to the hop overload, weíve blended four different specialty malts to create a distinctive deep amber hue and sweet caramel and roasty flavors.

2010-11 bottle from Pyramid. Standard orangy amber-copper hued with a healthy whitish head. Nice lacing. Nice neutral yeast beneath a chewy malt spine and rich bitter thick hoppiness. Some tropical fruit notes. Balanced but Hop aroma lacks as compared to previous draught tastings. Labels suck but I am not rating based on label.

Pours clear and light gold with a slight white head that dissipates but laces well. Aroma is medium of dough, alcohol, caramel. Taste is smooth for such a big alcohol content, with a medium bitter linger.

Dark copper, medium off white head. Sticky malt aroma, slight caramels, juicy citrus and pine resin. Full bodied, nice mouth feel, slightly oily, and the carb is nice and soft. The finish is quite bitter, loads of pine resins, and solid sticky citrus peel and zest. A well balanced dipa, good stuff.

Orange-copper in colour with a thin but lasting white head, good lacing. The aroma is quite malty, some sweetness, pine, citrus and spice. The flavour is of caramel malts, bready, some oranges. Lightly bitter mouthfeel, medium body, medium carbonation. Finishes long with a strong bitterness.

650ml bottle from the LCBO in Peterborough, Ontario.

Bomber from LCBO, served cool in a tulip glass.

App.: Clear bright amber with a decent tan head. Aroma: Quite juicy and sweet, lots of rich caramel malts, citrus, tropical fruits, brown sugar, a little dusty, somewhat resinous, a touch peppery, quite nice. Palate: Medium+ body, moderate+ carbonation. Flav.: Quite malt-forward with good hop notes, resinous, pungent citrus, lots of tropical fruits, big caramel and brown sugar malt, nice stuff; lightly sweet with pretty big bitterness and a long, resinous/fruity/citrus/caramel finish.

A great beer and a great deal at only $4.95 a bottle!

Malty DIPA, LCBO acquisition. Similar to the tap sample I had last summer, drinkable but unimpressive. Yes this is how it tastes. Orange with some lace.Orange taste, orange aroma.

650 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a clear orange colour with average-sized cream-coloured head. Aroma is bread, caramel, pine, citrus and other fruit. Flavour is quite well-balanced with bready, caramelly and fruity malt character and resiny, slightly citric hops. Slick mouthfeel. Big body. Impressive.

Outburst may not seem especially noteworthy when compared to some of its legendary contemporaries but you canít deny that this brew has balls. Nevermind the fact that this beer boasts only 80 IBUís (only in the hop-crazed world of IPAís can you say "only 80 IBUís"). This brew uses some of the most aggressive hop varieties (Centennial, Nugget, Simcoe, Chinook) and creates a flavor thatís plenty crisp and bitter without being brutal. I loved the woodsy, floral note that this IPA brings to the aroma and taste. While not as complex as some of the other hoppy ales, Outburst brings plenty of bravado and masterful balance to the palate.

Bottle. A- Grapefruit, citrus, soapy, piney, floral. A- Amber color, clear liquid, white head. T- Citrus, bitter, piney. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, lingering finish. O- A very lovely aroma with lots of tropical citrus and floral. The taste is the same but the pine and bitterness is more pronounced and you get less of the citrus on the tongue. Overall, this one was a lot smoother and more refreshing than I was expecting it to be.
