Ignition Series #2
Outburst Imperial IPA is a high-impact workout for the senses. A crafty combination of four different hops, and a dose of dry hopping, powers Outburst to 80 IBU strong. Its bold profile offers an aroma reminiscent of the Northwest hop fields at harvest time, along with spicy overtones of fresh citrus. Seeking a harmonious balance to the hop overload, weíve blended four different specialty malts to create a distinctive deep amber hue and sweet caramel and roasty flavors.

650ml bottle. Clear copper body, medium beige head with excellent retention. Aroma of wormwood and toffee, orange candies, dust, peppercorn, a little nutty. Taste starts with a nice bitter wave, followed by caramel malt sweetness, grapefruit zest, honey and a tad floral. Good.

Bottle: Poured a bright yellow/orangey color ale with a nice thick white foamy head with good retention and some great lacing. Aroma of citrus notes is quite nice with some residual sugar notes noticeable. Taste is also dominated by citrus notes with fresh floral notes that are somewhat offset by too much residual sugar. Body is about average for style with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Nice IIPA but I would ay that there is too much residual sugar for my own personal taste.

2014/07/20 - Pours a clear, burnt orange/amber colour with a large, pillowy, off white head that dissipated quickly. Aroma is caramel, roast, tropical fruits, biscuit, mild pine and mild citrus. Taste is caramel, roast, mild citrus, biscuit, spicy hops and mild pine. Mouthfeel is medium and slick with mildly biting carbonation and a sweet finish that starts juicy and finishes dry. Finish was sweeter than I had hoped for. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

(650mL bottle from LCBO) Pours a clear medium amber with a moderate, tight white head that lingers and leaves lace. Aroma is heavy on caramel and golden sugar, hops seem restrained/faded with weak pine resin and a hint of orange flesh and something vaguely tropical. On the palate, again malt-forward, bit of caramel and dough, but at least there are relatively more hops than nose; pine resin again along with a little citrus zest, floral notes, slight woodsy/peppery spice too? Fairly bitter and dry on the finish despite the malty character - more like a bitter IPA than a big DIPA though. Moderate alcohol heat for 8ish% abv. Mouthfeel moderate but oily, soft carb. I donít think this beer is that fresh, but itís a bit too malt heavy and the hop character is not really punchy or inspiring compared to local DIPAs (ex GLB, Bellwoods). The bar is a lot higher in ON now.

Pours dark golden with a small white top and good lacing. Aroma is caramel and pine hops. Taste is slightly off balanced with resinous pine hops and caramel malted back.

Clear amber/orange colour. Muted notes or resin and hoppy pine cones with a caramel backbone. West coast style with upfront hops, hoppy mid palate and hoppy finish but there is some age on this one that is rather disappointing, not to mention the sterile filtered approach which mutes alot of flavours.

This one was just kind of decent at best. Not a lot going on in the aroma. After it warmed up I got a little bit of grapefruit and pine. Taste was okay. Nothing really that notable. Some hop bitterness, and crackery biscuit malt and thatís about it. Iíve had a few other beers by Pyramid and they were pretty good but this one was just kind of average in my opinion. The name gave me this idea of bit hop bursts. Okay beer.

650ml bottle.. deep copper hue. Nice head leads to good lacing. Head dissipates quickly. From the get-go you can tell this is a west coast beer.. Lots of hops and bitterness balance nicely with 8.5% abv..Sweet carmel and roasted notes lead to pleasant long lasting finish,,a true west coast IPA.
