Nutty malt flavours take the front seat here with a hop bitterness to the finish, but no real hop flavour. I prefer a more hop balanced APA.

Great dark red color and a decent creamy head. Flavor is full of hops with a medium hop aftertaste. Cool label, too. I love pyramids.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: MAY 11, 2003 Deep and murky amber. Malty, wet dough nose. Creamy and gentle up front, carbonation in the rear. Decent texture. Malt flavors have notes of cookie dough and crackers. Hops are herbal, finishing with a citric bitterness that carries into the aftertaste. Vanilla flavors and aromas rise here and there, then become more and more pronounced as you drink. Bitterness lingers on the tongue. While not that bad of a beer overall, the herbal hop flavors didn't seem to jive with the vanilla notes.

For Seattle, this one is a little light, but it is still a well-made and enjoyable pint. On tap, this is called Best Bitter.

Good balance, though I would prefer more of a hop finish. A fine pale Ale.

This is a great pale ale. A nice floral hop aroma mingles with the caramel malts.
IMHO Pyramid turns out consistently great beers, and this is one of their finest. A great ’gateway’ beer to get your friends off of the Budmilloors crap.
Very good balance, yet it lets every aspect of the beer shine.

UPDATED: MAY 18, 2003 Wow! Its been 991 days since I sampled this beer, a bit overdue I’d say, as Pyramid makes some quite quaffable beers.
A limpid burnished copper color on the pour, the average in size, frothy, a light beige color; the residual lace is decent and covers the glass to my satisfaction. Nose is mostly sweet malt, crisp and clean, a sniffable beer to be sure, start is malt laden, sweet, and top middling in its feel to the palate. Finish is mildly acidic, the hops have a delicate bite, dry and linger aftertaste, a good drinking beer, not great, just a nice thirst quenching summer session beer.
