fiulijn (14294) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - APR 5, 2010
Dark brown color; small head. Average caramel aroma, and light spices. Dark caramel flavor, lean body; the final is disturbing: too much roasted malt and ashes, but, mostly, too bitter. It’s not pleasant.

Underrated amongst NW barley wines. Probably too subtle for all those hopheads.

(Bottle) Pours a amber-brown color with a thin light tan head. Taste of carmel and fruit add to the complexity of this winter brew.

Think barley wine light, and then you’ve probably got a good idea of what to expect. Clear dk brown red, with minimal tan head. Aroma is strong caramel malty at first, but a noticeable earthy hoppiness shows up as it warms. Perhaps the slightest hint of seasonal spices? Flavor is malty sweet & caramel at the start. Then, toward the back of the mouth, pine hop bitterness takes over and takes you through the swallow. Fairly rich bodied.
