Winter Warmer. A rich, full-bodied winter warmer crafted in the British tradition of holiday beers. This deep mahogany colored brew balances complex fruit flavors with a refreshingly smooth texture.

UPDATED: JUL 12, 2006 Rerate 2005 vintage: Pours a clear dark mahogany with a thin ring of wispy light tan head. Has a sweet, dark malty aroma with some caramel and chocolate character. Body starts with a nice, sweet toasted caramel maltiness with some beet sugar and turning more fizzy and drier toward the finish, but revealing some vegetal off-flavors along the way. Without those, this would make a real nice winter warmer.

2003: Pours a dark robust brown with a with off-white coating of head. Musty and thick caramel malty aroma with some dry English hops. Body is grainy, syrupy and bittersweet with a dry sweaty hoppy finish. Hides its alcohol well, but just doesnít have the flavor and balance it should.

On draft at the brewpub, downtown Seattle. It pours a clear deep amber with decent tan head and some sheet lacing. The beer was served way too cold. It was difficult to get a good read on the aroma and it didnít taste as good this cold either. What I was able to smell was mild roasted maltiness and faint fruity esters. The taste, once it warmed some, was a mild burst of roasted malts followed by a stronger cherry, prune and plum fruitiness. I also noticed some mild pine hop bitterness that grew to nearly a moderate level bitterness in the finish.

Dark brown, ruby tones. Spicy, a little plummy, bready and toasty, slightly yeasty. Not a lot of hop character, but I donít mind. Very satisfying.

Draft. Mahogony colored beer with a thin white head. Spicey, malty aroma. Sweet malt flavors with some holiday spiceiness. A touch of fruit. Slight roastiness. I donít remember it being this good - but Iíve only had it in bottles before.

Bottle. Really solid winter warmer - super easy drinking and flavorful, but not a palate challenger. Malty, mild dark fruit, and just a hint of spice. Good stuff.

12oz bottle. Enjoy by 3/11/13. Darker hazy brown / red color. Huge pillowy khaki fills the glass and requires a 2-part pour. Fades, but a good thin layer remains. Cinnamon spice and baked apple / pear skin nose. Medium - plus body. Smooth, light / medium soft carbonation. Light spicy bite in the finish. Spice, and toasty english malt taste. Some musty bruised fruit. Light metallic. Moderate bitter, light spice bite... Not awful, but not very pleasant. Not my kind of English Strong Ale, nor my kind of winter ale.

2002 bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, off-white, mostly lasting. Body is dark orange-brown. Aroma is lightly malty (nutty, caramel), lightly hoppy (flowers). Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is moderately acidic, lightly bitter, very unclean. Medium to full body, creamy texture, lively carbonation. Now this is some foul stuff...horrible aftertaste, undrinkable...either this is a ruined batch or the rest of you are on drugs. Hmmmm...or maybe Iím on drugs. What I really want to know is how they got Mississippi River water all the way up to Washington.

Bottle pours a raspberry tinted dark brown, medium off-white foamy head, attractive lacing, with light carbonation.   Earthy, floral, and herbal aroma.   Slight medicinal notes.   Biscuity (non-sweetened) hop flavor, mild malt, and a bit fruity.   Feels heavy, slightly syrupy to the point of being cloying.   Full body, somewhat thick body.   Finishes thick, slight cough syrup like flavor and mouthfeel.   Good, but almost a bit too cloying.

Draft after a day of skiing. Pours deep brown with a beige head. Lightly roasted malts, bread, light holiday spices, and a medium fruity sweetness. Good stuff.
