Bottle to snifter (shared with the Mrs.). Looks decent; a cloudy brown with AMPLE off-white head and lively carbonation. Smells of dark fruit, yeast, and caramel. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel. Forgettable.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 onceblind (2535) - Denver, Colorado, USA - MAY 2, 2013
Dark murky nutty brown with a gigantic light cream head, even when poured gently. Smells like roasted caramel and earthiness along with a bitter grassy and leathery hop note. Flavor is kinda nutty and earthy with some boozy toasted caramel malt, light notes of chocolate, some leather, a little herbal and earthy hop flavor and semi-strong hop bitterness. Like a calm BIPA with less roast and less American hops.

Surprisingly good! Pours dark with a medium head. Typical British Xmas ale aromas of fruitcake and port and cinnamon. Great palate with super crisp finish.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Elwood (2493) - Leesburg, Virginia, USA - MAR 10, 2013
Serving: 12 oz. bottle from Wegmans Leesburg. It pours a very dark red color with a thick head of tan foam. The nose smells of spiced bread, brown sugar, cherries, and apples. The flavor leans towards the sweet and spiced side, like you would expect from a holiday ale. The sweetness is balanced with abundant carbonation and light earthy bitterness. A little pine and vanilla come out as it warms. Nice brew.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 glennmastrange (1888) - hobe sound, Florida, USA - MAR 6, 2013
Bottle. Moderate malt aromas of bread and roasted, light cooked orange for the hops, moderate dough for the yeast, with brown sugar and dried fruit. Head is huge, frothy turning rocky, off-white with excellent lacing and is fully lasting. Color is muddy medium red/brown. Flavor starts slightly sweet and moderately acidic, then the long finish is moderately acidic and moderately to heavily bitter. Palate was undescernable from the overly fizzy carbonation. This English Strong Ale has nice aromas but the flavor is out of balance and its carbonation hides too much of the mouthfeel.
