Excellent multi-grain beer from Franconia. Part dunked, part roggenbier. Smooth, without the normal dunkel bitterness. Dark, murky brown with creamy beige head. Aroma is fruity and sour. Taste is nutty. This is really excellent.

500ml Bottle from Good Spirits Co, Glasgow (£3):
Lots of malts & some bread with some sweetness. It’s not particularly strong on the nose, there is some bitterness and wheat with the beer almost hinting at being a hefeweizen with some background fruits & grain.
Dark, cloudy amber with a fingers-width tall, foamy to creamy white head that holds pretty good over the opening minutes before eventually having in size.
Wheat & banana kick things off with the beer again seeming like a hefeweizen but the grains & strong malts soon take over with touches of sweetness. Caramel & further grains start to come through & although the beer wasn’t the greatest to begin with, almost seeming bland, it did pick up around the middle with some spice featuring as well.
Lots of grain & sweetness on top of a light-medium body & medium carbonation. There is some spice & a dry finish that is followed by quite a bitter aftertaste.

Fairly average in truth, it starts with some wheat & spice with background fruits but it still seems to come across as quite a bland one before improving some around the middle. Definitely drinkable but it wasn’t overly enjoyable & won’t be one I’ll pick up again.

Bottle. Amber color. Cereal aroma and flavor. Thinnish. Hint of pear. Just a little bit of grainy sweetness. Nice and easy drinking beer without much depth.

Ins Glas ergießt sich ein sehr trübes bernsteinfarbenes Bier mit geringer Schaumkrone. Geruch sehr malzig, getreidig. Geschmack getreidig, malzig, Karamellnoten.

Milchiges Bernstein, schwache Schaumbildung. Säuerlich-milchiges-Getreidearoma. Auch im Geschmack irgendwo zwischen Roggenbrot und säuerlicher Buttermilch. Gefällt mir gar nicht!

Shared a 33cl from Maruhn (Darmstadt). Pours a little hazy pale amber colour with a medium thin off-white head. The aroma is bread, caramel and vanilla. Medium to low carbonation and medium body. Flavour is medium sweet with a long end. Overall, a quite sweet and boring beer, but drinkable though.

bartlebier (1651) - Belchum im Breisgau, GERMANY - AUG 21, 2013
50cl screwtop with informative label: 6 types of malt used, incl. spelt, oatmeal and (historical) "emmer". Pours a cloudy amber honey with gorgeous Kräusen stable head. Aroma of honey. Taste is unsurprisingly malt forward, honey on fresh, crusty bread, sweetish but with a dry and medium mouthfeel and little hop kick in the aftertaste. Enjoyable specialty Keller.
