3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: MAR 12, 2010 12 oz. bottle from the Party Source. Pours a slightly hazy light brown color with a small disappearing white head and very little carbonation. The aroma is sweet malty highlighted by ample amounts of bourbon and vanilla. This does not smell like your typical IPA. The flavor is sweet malt with hints of caramel. The bourbon and vanilla are prominent here as well. The only sign of hops is some earthy bitterness toward the finish. Medium full bodied; this wants to be sipped. In fact, this resembles an Old Ale or Strong Ale more than an IPA. I am obliged to give an extra point or so for a local company that is trying to do different things.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle to snifter (from notes). Looks okay and smells decent. You can definitely smell the barreling. Tastes hoppy and boozy, but the flavors donít marry the best. Mouthfeel is average. Okay, but I generally prefer my IPAs unbarreled.

Amber in color, clear with a thin head. They say it is a IPA butt hat was missing. I got the whiskey taste and some spice taste of vanilla. Very easy drinking beer and tasty.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Not much of an IPA but I really liked this beer. Caramel and vanilla notes aplenty here. Bourbon is there but has faded agreeably. No hops evident but quite tasty.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
My first beer from these guys, and really first bourbon barrelled IPA, that said, this was something unexpected. It pours a deep amber with faint head, smell was boozy bourbon throughout. Big vanilla, caramel flavors. The IPA kind of threw me, not much hops to balance it out, but still a good beer. This was quite drinkable for being +7%, good stuff

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle thanks to alexsdad06. Pours a murky light brown with a small ring of white head. Aroma of bourbon upfront and a background of caramel malt. Flavor of bourbon and sugary malt. It tastes weird and I canít put my finger on it. An odd creation and I canít say Iím a fan. Yuck.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from a trade with phaleslu. Pours cloudy dark orangish color with tan head that dissipates quickly. Aromas of boubon, vanilla, oak and caramel. Kind of a bizarre flavor. With the aromatics you would expect a heavy stout typical of barrel aged beers. Itís got the flavors of bourbon, vanilla and oak with some light maltiness. It seems almost empty without the big roastiness of typical barrel aged beers. Medium body with moderate carbonation. Definately a strange brew. Thanks Peter.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz. bottle from The Party Source. Pours a mostly clear brown color with a small off-white head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is much like any other bourbon barrel-aged beer, with oak, vanilla, booze, caramel malts, and butterscotch. The flavor, however, is pretty weak, with notes of all of the above and a little hops to boot. Seems watered down after the nose. Light bodied, with minimal carbonation. Smooth and light on the palate, and not like most other IPAs. One thing I can say about both Quaff offerings so far is íinterestingí but I will certainly keep trying them.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Pours dark gold with a thin fully receding off-white head. Notes of vanilla, oak, bourbon, wood, caramel and alcohol. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and alcoholic with soft carbonation. Strong, sweet and not very hoppy. I like the idea, but perhaps more hops and less time in the barrel?

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 ounce bottle. Served in a pint glass, the beer pours a hazy light brown color with about a half inch off-white head. The brew is sweet and malty, it smells like bourbon, coconut, oak and vanilla. I canít smell any hops at all, but Iím not complaining. The taste is pretty much the same as the aroma. The bourbon taste is noticable in the beer, but itís not quite as strong as Iíd like it to be. Mouthfeel/body is medium, itís a bit coating and has moderate carbonation. Drinkability is pretty good, itís smooth and very easy to drink. For a bourbon barrel aged beer, I could drink a few of these at a time with no problem. I think itís a good overall brew, hopefully this will become a regular brew from Mt. Carmel. Iíll make sure to pick up some more the next time I go to Party Source.
