Yep, those crazy kids Danny, Jay and the rest of the Quaff Bros. team are making more unique styles of beer and soaking them in Kentucky’s best Bourbon barrels. This time they prove no style of beer is safe, and have taken an already delicious Imperial Pumpkin Ale, with the help of local brewery Rivertown Brewing Co., and aged it in “Old Fitzgerald DSP-KY16” Bourbon Barrels. At first whiff this seasonal ale blows off a bouquet dominated by sweet vanilla, graham cracker, caramel, brown sugar and booze. It loosens up on the mid-palate and showcases a flavor profile of nutmeg and cinnamon before dialing out to a long crisp and dry finale. This beer is just in time to keep the Pumpkin Ale craze alive while other releases are running out of product. This small one-off concoction produced just seven 1/6 barrels and will run out fast so stop reading this and come in for a fill of Uncle Fitz’s Country Bumpkin.
The facts: 8% abv, recommended drinking slightly chilled from a snifter

10/27/2011: Quaff Bros Uncle Fitz’s Country Bumpkin... I just picked this up from the growler station at The Party Source. To be honest, I was a bit apprehensive to even go out and get this beer. I didn’t have the last Quaff Bros release (Planked Porter), so the last one I had was the Quaff Bros Hop Flood and that one was a wretched disaster. Anyway, time to pour this one and see how Quaff Bros is doing now that they switched from Mt. Carmel to Rivertown Brewing... Aroma: Sugary-bourbony-vanilla-pumpkin with just a touch of cinnamon spice. Appearance: Shiny, clear copper color; thin, bubbly off-white crown. Flavor: Vanilla-pumpkin with a mellow cherry-bourbon character, a bit off cinnamon and spice, and then some whipped cream on top! Palate: Medium-light; subtle carbonation; a bit thin for the style, perhaps. Overall: Flavorful, yet delicate; the pumpkin-bourbon is a nice combination; Quaff Bros has redeemed themselves in my eyes after Hop Flood - I only wish I could have tried the Planked Porter now!
Growler fill (draught) from The Party Source in Bellevue, KY. Rating #1 for this beer.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Growler sample shared by shigadeyo (late 2011 notes). Pours a clear deep amber copper color with a medium sized white head. The aroma had fleshy pumpkin, mild spices, wood, vanilla, bourbon, hints of cherry. The flavor is very drinkable, sweet malts, pumpkin, vanilla, bourbon, cherry notes, pumpkin spices and graham crackers. The barrel definitely enhanced the beer. Solid.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Growler sample shared by shigadeyo. Poured clear orange copper color with a large off-white frothy head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Solid dough & vanilla pumpkin pie and small sweet bourbon aroma. Medium to full body with a creamy smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy sweet bourbon pumpkin flavor with a medium to heavy spice sweet finish of moderate to long duration. Standout seasonal beer that exceeded my expectations.
