5oz sample from brewery. Pours an expected medium brown with thin off-white head. Aroma of sweet caramel malt, toasted malt, and roasted nuts. Flavor matches well and comes together nicely with a slight sweetness, but not overbearing. Definitely gets my vote for their top 2.

Sampled at the brewpub. Dark brown opaque with an inviting tan head. A nice nose of nuts and chocolate. It is thinner than it looks. Chocolate, nuts, grass, and light roasted notes.

On tap at the brewpub. Deep opaque stout-like brown body, thick, tight beige head. Caramely nose with Munichy dark fruit sweetness, toast, and maple syrup. Toasty body with brown sugar, red grapes, and caramel, soft and rich. Somewhat biting finish. Pretty good.

Nice nutty aroma. Flavor is slightly sweet, with a hint of nuttiness and malt. Finish is clean. Very drinkable...goes well with any of the food, particulaly the bread.

Pretty solid brew. Malty, not too watery. Slightly nutty. Sweet, but not watery-sweet. Very drinkable, one of their better brews.

Pint from the tap. Small, but lasting head. Very nutty aroma and fairly sweet. Smooth and creamy with a bitter finish. Could be a bit more full bodied, but overall, a nice brown.

muzzlehatch (4829) - Beloit, Wisconsin, USA - AUG 16, 2006
5 oz draught sample at the brewpub, late July 2006. Near-opaque chestnut with a lasting off-white head and fair lacing....hazelnuts, almonds, chocolate and caramel along with just a hint of buttery diacetyl in the surprisingly rich dessert-y aroma....body shows pleasant toffee character at first well supported by a creamy mouthfeel, but does get a touch sour/cidery towards the finish which is thinner than you’d hope for....far and a away the best beer from this pub, no classic but quite drinkable.

Dark red, light brownish head. Sweet malt, brown sugar, nutty - to the effect of hazlenut - chocolate and very light coffee in the nose. Smooth, with notes of chocolate. Lightly sweet with a slight hop bitterness towards the end that dries out. Very nice aroma and a body that's getting there.
