1.9 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 BlackHaddock (2440) - Shropshire, - APR 17, 2012Sep 2010: Brown 25cl bottle, slightly out of date (by 3 months). Poured into a Hoegaarden Grand cru stemmed tulip glass, without any sediment leaving the bottle. This is another one of those ’label beers’, no brewery, just contracted out with the name ’Ploegsteert’ as a front. This is the third in the set I’ve reviewed.
Snow white bubbley head on top of a lagerlike golden, bright body.
Very little aroma, even as the beer warmed. Mostly alcohol esters with maybe hints of Belgian yeasts if I sniff really hard.
The taste seems to be more alcohol than anything else, a bit like those strong lagers that have no flavour but give you a huge headache.
Not impressed, better than the Du Bocq brewed Queue De Charrue Amber, but not as good as the Queue De Charrue Brune, which is brewed by Verhaeghe.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20 Swaroga (797) - Brussels, BELGIUM - APR 28, 2013
33cl bottle. Golden with medium, white head. Nose : grains, lightly caramelised, booze, barnyard, banana, zest, apricot. Sip : strong carbonation, creamy texture. Sweet with strong fruity aromas. Unusually warming for the alcohol content. Develops sour notes with esters in the background. The hops add peppery and flower aromas but very delicate bitterness. The beer is a typical Belgian blond with the characteristics of Du Bocq Brewery like heavy carbonation with a mouthful feeling and esters. Not my type but I’ll drink it with pleasure since it has been a while I heaven’t got a Belgian blond to drink.
2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 stevoj (971) - Ramstein-Miesenbach, GERMANY - FEB 28, 2013
Different take on a Belgian ale. Initial sweetness, almost like a French mirabelle beer. Golden in color with fast-fading white head. Aroma is light, taste is wheat (think weizen). This is a tough one, as it seems to be doing too mnay things....
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 harrisoni (11023) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - FEB 18, 2013
Bottle from Terre de Boissons, Calais. Clear gold with thick lasting white head. Lots of peach ester on the aroma. Oh and apricot, lots of apricot. It’s a pretty decent blond. Lots of apricot and fullish in mouth. Some dryness on the finish. It’s very likeable and very drinkable. Love the apricot flavour. Nice.

Blonde très correct, bien qu’elle manque de réelle personalité. A boire en Automne sur un plat dont on ne veut pas couvrir le goût.
