Milk, custard and caramel in the aroma. Pear juice. Touches of milky sourness. Thin, caramelly, grape sugar, pear drups. The sourness annoys a bit, seems artificial.

Belle apparence. Fines bulles. De couleur brun foncé. Nez vineux. On perçoit les cerises et le beurre (?). Attaque très puissante et surprenante. Finale sucrée.

Strong, tart, cherry fruitiness with some balsamic and sugary sweetness as well as butterscotch and vanilla in the aroma. Clear, dark, amber brown coloured body is topped by a finger of fine bubbled, fizzy, tan head that recedes rapidly to a partial cover and ring. Cherries and balsamic flavours are pleasantly tart with a fairly toasty, biscuity malt character, but there is an underlying buttery character and sweetness that is somewhat off-putting. Dry medium body is somewhat slick in texture with strong, hard bubbled carbonation that prickles the tongue. Snifter. Cellar temperature.

(Rating #448)

Bottle. Pours deep brown. Nose is sour fruits, dusty cocoa, wet wood, dried earth and light sugary notes. Taste is sweet-sour with balsamic vinegar, some wet wood notes, light earthiness, and light cat urine. Body is light and slightly tart and acidic. Finishes with more acidic notes, tart fruits, balsamic vinegar and wood.

Bottle: Lovely ruby amber in colour with a short tan head and good lace. Awesome nose of cherries, rotting grapes and wood. Sweetish sugary start with an acidic finish. Body is quite full, though acidity balances it. A little sticky with brown sugary bits. Nice, but smells better than it tastes.

Dark brown pour with a thin offwhite head. Aroma of sour cherries and oak. The flavor also has sour cherries and oak. The body has a light to medium thickness with an oily texture and moderate carbonation. Very akin to other Verhaeghe Flemish Sours where the oak is very present, it’s good.

Glouglouburp (5998) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 2, 2006
UPDATED: AUG 17, 2007 Pours a very dark red almost brown. Small but persistent off-white head. Intense sour nose. Stong fruity (mainly cherry) sour taste. A bit vinous with some caramel notes. Oak/barrel presence is moderate. If find the Queue de Charrue a bit too sweet. Kind of a Duchesse de Bourgogne (the reference for the style) diluted with one of those commercial cooler drink. Flavour of berries nose-to-nose with cherries. Wants very hard to be a Duchess but is barely a Baroness.

rederic (2911) - montréal, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 14, 2006
Reddish mahogany color, with a tan-colored head, nice nose of oakiness, wineyness, with a caramel note, black cherries fruitiness, with a chocolatey hint in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a sweet and sour cherry fruitiness, oaky character, with a slightly note of tartness and iron, malty touch, leading towards a fruity acidic finish. A good beer, but not as good as the duchesse de bourgogne.
