COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Danish: Dunkel blev første gang brygget til Oktoberfest-teltet i Randersugen 2009. En mørk og maltet øl brygget på pilsnermalt, karamelmalt og en anelse ristet malt. Tysk humle og undergær. Meget velegnet til det traditionelle danske køkken.

Bottle. Pours amber with a medium off white head. The aroma is highly bready with notes of tobacco, grain and some dark fruit. The flavour is light roasted with notes of dark fruit and toasted malt. Light tobacco. Light fishy finish actually.

Bottle, vin-og-gaver.dk. Sweet light fruits in the nose and on the tongue. Slightly oily smooth texture to it. A touch thin and a bit woody, with some wine characteristics. As a session beer it’s okay, but nothing startling.

Bottle. Dark brown with small off white head. Arom very malty, caramel, rye bread. Taste a very malty beer, the bread notes are dominating in the taste. A fine dunkel and a good session beer.

Medium beige head. Clear deep dark brown body with light carbonation. Light dusty strawy caramelized sugar aroma with butterscotch and rye crisp bread notes. Dry, and faintly sweet, caramelly rye crisp bread taste with spicy notes. Light body. Mild, faintly slick mouthfeel. Dryish roasty dusty wooden aftertaste with butterscotch and toffee notes. Quite nice, but a bit dry and austere. (0.33l bottle, Salling, Århus.)

The beer poured a very dark brown - almost black - color. Obviously I should have been expecting a dark color given the beer style but for some reason I thought it was going to be more on the brown side. The head development was weak with less than a cm appearing in my dimpled mug. Retention was equally as underwhelming as the head quickly receded into the dark beer. Virtually no lacing present. The aroma of the beer was quite simply - I really could only identify the smell of dark grains which often gives me the impression of dark fruits like figs, plums, etc. I am also getting a sweet caramel touch. Caramel is the most notable thing to mention about the taste. It is not overly strong but it would be hard to miss if you were paying attention to the taste. It is a sweet caramel / toffee. You can also taste the roasted flavors from the dark grains. I am still getting some dark fruits but the new kid on the block is a touch of bitter chocolate. Overall the taste is not bad but I am not overly impressed. It had a creamy mouthfeel to it and a fairly dry finish. The carbonation was hidden in the dark liquid but was certainly present. I wasn’t expecting a lot of bubbles in the beer but I guess that was my own poor expectations given that this beer technically has the base of a lager. The mouthfeel was appropriate for the beer.
