COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

English: Imperial Stout is a deep black beer with a chocolatecoloured huge head. Has a powerful aroma and flavour of as well the roasted malts and the huge amounts of hops. While brewing the american hops Chinook, Centennial, Amarillo and Cascade are used. The beer is dryhopped with loads of Cascade.

Bottle. Black with a porous brown head. Aroma: chocolate liqueur, sweet licorice, slightly vinous, maybe honey, citrusy hops. Taste: cocoa, licorice, some soy sauce, cold coffee, burnt rubber, citrus, roasted. Finish has cocoa and grapefruit bitterness. Full-bodied. Quite complex and very nice.

Bottle, courtesy of Inbreak and shared with Bergen Beer Geek Tasting Crew. This used to be widely available in Norway through our government strong alcoholic beverage outlet chain "Vinmonopolet", but slipped away from me just as I was gettin’ warm on Ratebeer, going through their stock and rating everything I could get my hands on. So for me, this is a "missing link" of sorts. At least it feels that way. :-P Ooops, sorry: on with the rating - pitch black body, big caramel head. Nice. Aroma is licorice, coffee, black berries and hints of wood and leather. Taste is coffee tones, licorice and hints of dark malts, black berries and leather. Due to cellaring (can’t remember the vintage, but it’s more than 2 years old) it’s well integrated and slightly oxidized, but carries its age well. Mellow, creamy and very good.

Bottle shared at a tasting at Dancing Camel. Thanks Jacob for this bottle! Black-colored with no head. Alcoholic chocolate aroma with some dark fruit liqueur-like notes. Sweet chocolaty flavor with light fruity notes and a drier roasty finish with some coffee. Flat, full-bodied and oily. Pretty nice.

2011-01-29 - shared by jerc & mabel with me and blankboy. 375ml corked bottle. Near-opaque black (red at the edges) with a diminishing creamy light brown head. Aroma of alcohol, herbal bitterness with some nougat sweetness, heavy cloying deep roast malt but oddly a muted aroma for all that. Taste is nice - a bit boozy, with all the aroma character plus some fresh herbal bitterness, but it seems to gel better in the taste. Thick and creamy a bit boozy/astringent/dry, light carbonation, with a long bitter nutshell finish.

375 ml bottle courtesy of a trade with Rasmus40. Pours black with virtually no head and leaves no lace. Very pleasant aroma of chocolate, dark fruits, roasted malt and some alcohol vapors. The flavor is quite different than the aroma and is more centered on the roasted malt with licorice (particularly as the beer warms), orange, chocolate, and a bit of alcohol. Finish is a bit ashy and dry. The mouthfeel is just a bit slick I think mostly due to the lack of carbonation. Medium-full bodied.

375 ml bottle @ The Rover on December 3. Sampled courtesy of Stefan K. Pours oily black with no head. Smells is big with lots of milk chocolate, liquorice, roasted malts and alcohol. Taste is roasted malts, alcohol, vanilla and sweet liquorice. Finish is dry with bitter chocolate. There’s no CO2 so bottle might be a bit bad.
