tompete (63), Burlington, Iowa, USA Apr 5, 2008 Light tan head and a dark brown color. Dark roast and minor hoppy nose. Hoppy in a very strange way. Not as hoppy in the nose. I notice the hop slowly after I’ve swallowed. It sneaks up across my tounge. Dark chocolate flavors right away after swallowing but then transitioning into the hop flavor on the way down.
Beer_2000 (1269), Kristiansand, Norway Oct 5, 2008 330 ml bottle. Black body with a brown head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, fruit and hops. Flavor is chocolate, bitter coffee, dry fruit, roasted malt and citrus hops. Strong and well made beer with a complex delicious flavor. FatPhil (2352), Espoo, Finland Oct 5, 2008 500ml bottle (Pikkulintu, Helsinki)
Practically black, tiny beige head. Initial sharp hoppy aroma, later some chocolate. Pleasant carbonation, quite full smooth sticky-sweet palate. Some sherbet on swallowing. Very well balanced combination of richly roasted, burnt, malt, and tangy bitter hops. So light and lively, yet so thick and weighty. Great imperial stout. Later I detected that the finish has some soap and perfume, so I knocked it down one in palate; however, the long finish is very pleasantly toasty and hoppy. Nearly on a par with Nekron, maybe? Borgen (15), Denmark Sep 27, 2008 Simply fantastic. Draught at plan b. Dark and thick with a strong taste of chocolate/coffee. Best beer so far. Slayer85 (454), Firenze, Italy Sep 25, 2008 Bottled (9% ABV). An opaque black beer with a medium sized and disappearing light brown head. The aroma is softly malty with roasted and chocolate notes. More than average hopping for the style, the American hops can be clearly smelled. Not so "stouty" aroma, but above all nice. The flavour has more accentuated roasted malt notes, almost burnt. Quite sweet, but well balanced. Usual notes of chocolate, coffee and licorice. Medium to full body, average/lively carbonation, dry and long finish with medium to high bitterness. Very enjoyable. cgarvieuk (2525), Edinburgh, Scotland Sep 19, 2008 Cask at EBF Copenhagen 2008 ...
