MiP (8793), Sønderborg, Denmark Feb 1, 2006 Bottle. Fresh hop aroma. Golden colour, big stable white head. Flavour is OK malty, with a low to medium bitterness. Nice enough pils, but no explosion of flavour. Probiere (992), Iowa, USA Jan 31, 2006 Yuck! Dry, watery, papery. There’s nothing here and what little there isn’t worth finishing. This is on tap in the ’best’ German restaurant in NYC? For the record I wasn’t impressed with their food either. bigrond (1043), factoryville, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 22, 2006 this is almost undrinkable. Horrible - label says pilnes - you say lager tases like crap for either catergory. WOW tis is poor quaility HermanW (619), Coevorden, Netherlands Jan 22, 2006 A bitter premium lager. Its not my type of lager! onystrom (741), Århus-Randers Crew, Denmark Jan 8, 2006 Golden color wtih a great head. A bit watery and too carbonated, slightly bitter. Very ordinary lager... BeerBlockaid (538), Jacksonville, Florida, USA Jan 5, 2006 Bottle consumed at Groove Sation in Dresden, Germany. This is kind of typical gass station canßbooze. Well, replace kind of with IS. Grass and corn. Some lemon here and there and some bitter hints. Promptly carbed, but rather dull in charachter. Just kind of sat there and needless to say, I dont think I finished half of it. Grassy, grainy aroma. Thin thin liquid. Nice shot of bitterness! A twist of citrus there. A longer aftertaste than expected, pleasant bitterness. Good with food. So, the question remains: why isn’t this a pilsner?
Update: Comments hold, but score gains a point. Really a good baseline for judging other German beers. DrnkMcDermott (1831), Downers Grove, Illinois, USA Jan 1, 2006 Bottle from Wild Oats, Hinsdale, IL. An odd choice for my first rating of 2006, but this is what I felt like, and ya don’t fight the feelin.’ So, the quest continues for a decent, representaive German lager that stands up to importing. Light gold in color, with a stiff white head. Initially, there’s a decent German beer smell, but it gets overtaken by some kind of ruibbery nose. malt character is a little hard to find,, just a kind of graininess and some adjunct, There is a bit of spicy, even peppery, hop to it, if you want to look, but also a bit of that strange plastic "Miller" taste that sends it up or down in my estimation each time I taste it. Worth having had, and at least a pale lager with some character to it. Wonder if it might taste better closer to its home.
