4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Rich malty peaty aroma. Amazingly long lasting fluffy head, dark brown/whisky color, a bit hazy. Flavor is quite intense, smokey peatyness all the way through with a bit of sweet malt in the aftertaste. A bit of dark fruit in the flavor, but mainly the peat aromas/flavors dominate. Alcohol well hidden Very silky smooth mouthfeel with quite high carbonation, medium to heavy bodied. Quite refined for a scotch ale and easy drinking once you get into it.

2012 Bottle to pint glass
Aroma of smoky peat, malts, and smoke. Cloudy amber with a creamy and nearly frothy off white head. Taste is peat, malts and oak. Perhaps itís mellowed enough now, because I like it.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Sweet peat smoke aroma with a bit of raspberry and other fruit. Slightly hazy dark red-orange under a bubbly, white ring. Potent peat smoke flavour with sweet malt and some subtle nutty note. Medium body, medium carbonation, lingering peat flavour.

2.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours dark copper with a big beige head. Aroma is big peat, oak and light sweet whisky. Taste is smoke, peat and oak. Would like less peat and more whisky sweetness. Disappointing

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle - Lots of oak, bit of whiskey and bread. Rich clear copper with a thin beige head. Itís like licking a barrel. A good barrel, but a bit extreme.

(750ml bottle) Courtesy of Ferris - thanks Alberta! Pours a large frothy yellow head and a mahogany body. Nose of ... Well, whisky. Some good wood, whiskey and gritty Chinese vegetable. Pretty yummy.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle, shared with Grippitis and Ian. Auburn pour, lighter in colour than I expected for some reason (probably the opaque black bottle got me thinking this way). Very peaty nose-- we got Gripps bottle of Lagavulin to compare, and it really underscored the leathery smokiness in this brew. The malts are here in good balance, but in such a way to really elevate the whiskey character without causing it to be harsh or hot. Really terrific.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: MAR 6, 2014 Can I just type Smoke 75 times and be done with it? Ok... Black pour, fairly good head. Smoke and whisky aroma - mainly smoke. Beneath the smoke Iím getting sweet malk, whisky, Peat. Fairly heavy body. Donít approach by yourself - invite a few friends over to tackle this one.
EDIT - Has mellowed out a bit, still big smoke in the aroma but drinking a fair bit easier now. Rating adjusted.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Watch out when you open this, my cork launched out as soon as the cage was loosened... Followed by a bit of gushing. Ruby - Copper in colour with white head, fairly clear. Some lacing, nothing crazy. Nose is scotch, toffee, earthy. Scotch flavour is prominent, beer is also sweet and sticky. Some coppery taste to it. Subtle bitter finish. Interesting beer. Definitely not something I would want to drink the whole 750ml of to myself. Good one for a beer and scotch lover to split... Or would pair nicely with some desserts.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Beautiful packaging for their first brew. Black paper with their logo on it. Two big tags explaining what you are getting. Inside, a black Champagne bottle with a cork and cage. Pours a dark amber colour with an off-white frothy head, great retention and some nice creamy lace. Very carbonated with little bubbles. You can actually smell the whiskey in this one. Peaty nose with hints of burnt wood and fruity malts. Medium-bodied with a smooth, almost silky mouthfeel and not feeling much burning. The taste is a little lighter, but still the whiskey notes are present. Not as sweet as expected. A lovely first offering from this brewery and a real treat for whiskey lovers.
