COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Way out in the country, there are gravel roads. It’s the safest road with gentle slopes, without sudden turnings and without milestones or signposts - it’s like a good friend. It’s a connection to life - a tie to the past, the key to sanity in an insane world. It shows the final destination and usually the best way to get there. Our Gravel Road is a tribute to this lifestyle. This is a German-Style Sticke Altbier with an amber hue, medium carbonation with great balance between strong malt and hops. Relax as you travel down your gravel road. This is your ale - it’s sure to please.

[Tap] Pours a dark shade of brown with a rocky brown head to it. Sticky brown sugar and molasses in the nose. The taste is squarely centered on caramel and toffee, dark fruits, light cocoa, mild alcohol and residual sweetness. Prominent hoppiness is a bit out of character for the style. Sticky and malty mouthfeel conflicts with the hop finish. I have mixed feelings about this beer, so I may need to re-rate it somewhere down the line.

Clear dark copper pour with a beige head. Nutty aroma with some caramel and a little cocoa. Taste was nuts, caramel, and a little roast. Not bad.

12oz bottle. Deep amber color with a bit of white head. Aroma is sweet and fruity with some grain and caramel malt. Flavors of floral hops, caramel malt, and sugar sweetness. Not bad but not really good either. Has the same strange off aroma and flavor I’ve come to expect from Rahr - must be their water or something.

A medium brown hue with a malty aroma. The body is on the low end, with a medium malt flavor and hops in the aftertaste. A decent selection, but not outstanding.

Nice dark copper color. Weak head and lacing on the glass. Slight malty aroma. Average mouth feel. Not over powering. Average beer from an average beer company.

(Draught) Pours a murky brown body with a small beige head. Aroma of mustiness, raisins, nuts, and cocoa. Flavor of roasted nuts, grass, roasted grain, and earthiness.

Pint glass at brewery tour. I trying to record this by memory - German style altbier has a slight haze to light goldish amber color. Lacing but low head retention. It was pretty good but some of the Rahr beers have a heavier then regular beers bittering end to it. I didn’t mind it. Carmel nutty flavor, although light, with some hop aromas. Rahr is a great place to sit back, have a few, listen to some music, & maybe check out the brewery tour.

Bottle. Reddish in color, light beige colored head, decent carb, and clear. The smell is caramel, malts, sweet, cereal, and toast. The taste is dry, toasty, malts, chalky, and ok.

On tap at Monsters of Beer 2011. Pours a dark amber with a smalll frothy off white head. The aroma is raisin and caramel malt. Easy to drink with a sweet malt and light hop finish. A decent alt from Rahr.
