Drank this a week ago, so I canít remember all the details. This had a complex, dark flavor with a medium body. Not much bitterness which made it very drinkable.

Dark brown amber color with only the barest of beige heads. Big malty, molasses and dried fruit nose. This is a very smooth beer with big malty sweetness, caramel, molasses, raisin, prune, faint smoke and rich peat. There is some sweetened chocolate in the finish, with a nice warming alcohol sensation to it. This is a very sweet, accessible Scotch ale.

Sweet malty aroma with scents of molasses and prunes. Pours a very dark almost black amber with a thick light tan head. Sweet dark fruits. Medium bodied. Very smooth and sweet with just a hint of crisp earthy bitterness on the finish. Well balanced. Very nice drinking beer.

Pours a clear dark amber color with a 1/2 inch taupe colored head. Nice aroma of milk chocolate liqueur. The moutfheel is not adequate for the style. Not watery, but not all the way creamy either. The flavors are nice. A lot of chocolate and some Christmas pull candy. I really enjoy this beer. Not true to style, but good nonetheless.

This is a great-looking beer. With a deep, dark brown color and a light brown head that leaves behind some really sexy lacing, it looks thick, with carbonation forming on the sides of the glass, rising slowly to the surface with every movement. It smells malty, but not roasted, not sweet, and not dry - more slightly smoky, reminiscent but not strong of peat. Itís really neat on the palate, with a cool, chocolate-like spiciness with a touch of smoke that persists into the finish. Again, itís not sweet, but the peatiness spices things up really well and keeps it from feeling too cloying. This is a beer thatís full, but light-palated and offers a body thatís supple, but doesnít muddy up your taste buds. All-around, itís a modest, but well-brewed and well-balanced Scotch Ale thatís smooth, easy to drink, and flavorful.

Poured up a very dark brown with little head. Smells of chocolate malts. Tastes very thick with chocolate malts and a hint of caramel and hops. This is the first brew from Rahr & Sons that I will be buying again and again.
