Aroma is moderate to light heavy malty, roasted, caramel, tea, wood, light chocolate, light to moderate hoppy. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a average to long duration, chocolate, tea bitter. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20110807]

Bottle @ RBESG 2011 Grand Tasting at Dean Swift, Tower Bridge SE1. Pours a dark amber color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty bourbon aroma with hints of caramel. Sweetish malty caramel flavor with hints of woody barrel and weak hints of bourbon. Has a sweetish malty warming barrel finish.

(Hand bottle, courtesy of mar) Pours a dark brown body with a small beige head. Aroma of wood, bourbon, light smoke/peat, and vanilla. Flavor of toasted marshmallow, vanilla extract, caramel, nuts, and cocoa with a somewhat dry oak finish.
Rahr should really consider doing more of these types of beers. German yeast alone does not do it for today’s American craft beer drinkers.

Bottle (Grand Tasting at RBESG 2011, London) at Dean Swift. Clear dark brown - offwhite head. Barley, bourbon, fruiyt, sweetmess, nutty, ok bitterness, light oxidation, dark fruits, caramel, vanilla, light boozy, oakey. Nice.

Dean Swift - RBESG Tasting. Hazy red - brown beer. Little pale tan head. Bourbon - vanilla oak nose. Light palate, semi dry. Minerals. Nice vanilla oak and mild bourbon, lacto sweetness. Trace of fruit. Light dry finish. Tasty!

RBESG August 2011, grand tasting. Deep, ruby brown with a lasting off-white head. Aroma of toffee and dried fruit, with loads of bourbon and vanilla. Sweetish malty flavour with overwhelming bourbon character.
