4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Hand bottle thanks to Homer and Gerald (who unfortunately don’t post here). Pours dark brown to black with a creamy and lasting tan head. Aroma of well defined bourbon, vanilla, wood, and toffee. Flavor features a surprisingly milder bourbon note, big sweet vanilla, caramel, chocolate, wood, and a little porter-like astringency. Thick and creamy, more so than the regular winter for sure, but still very drinkable. No heat present despite the bourbon flavor and nose. Excellent!

4.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
pours deep, dark mahogany with average tan head. Smells strongly of bourbon and malts, such as vanilla. Hits the tongue with whiskey harshness and then rolls across with a sweet bourbon flavor, vanilla, and dark fruits. Full-bodied with a creamy texture and almost no mouth-carbonation, Rahr & Sons Bourbon Barrel Aged Winter Warmer finishes sweet and silky.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
22 oz. brown bottle. Big thanks to a kind BA from Chicago for sending me some of these. Let me first say that its ridiculous that I live in one of the biggest markets in TX but was not available in my city because the distributor didn’t want to bring it in. Shame on them. It poured a very dark brown almost black with a small head. The aroma has vanilla/bourbon barrel character, toasted crackers, fudge, and maybe even some roast. This is a very good aroma. The taste at first has bourbon barrel character contributing some vanilla flavors followed by a fudgie brownie. slightly nutty and maybe even some tastes of Coke. Soft mouthfeel. Now the barrel character is not over the top and is just right. Just enough to add some character to the beer but not overpower the beer. Best beer by Rahr.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Place this in the "I was hoping for more" category. Surprisingly very lively dark pour. Could not control that much carbonation. Nose of roasted malt and light bourbon and barrel. Taste follows the nose and the flavors on not the sharp. Way too over carbonated. Felt like I had pop rocks in my mouth.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
A thick, black body and a very small tan head. A complex aroma, with malt, hops, smoke, and bourbon. The taste has a lot going on, with chocolate, coffee, vanilla, and a finishing kick from the bourbon with a velvety mouth feel.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
1 year aged bottle. Hardcore aroma of bourbon and faint roasted malts. It poured a beautiful unfiltered translucent dark brown color with superb head retention and amazing lacing. Flavor of toasted malty goodness, oak, with a strong finish of whiskey that lingers on the palate. I’m loving this brew and can’t wait to have it again this year

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
on tap at ginger man in Austin Texas...aroma is pretty solid...bourbon is forward but good malt backbone, oak and dark fruit. flavor is full of malt...booze, some dark fruit and brown sugar, hint of spice. palate is very smooth and this is an easy drinker as it warms...enjoyable offering

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle from trade with crajun. Pours dark brown with a slight hint of red, and a low, disappearing head. Aroma is light, sweet, slightly nutty malt. Taste is malt with low level complexities of carmel and dried fruit, and a little hop bitterness. Barrel notes are slight. Mouth feel is fairly average, and the finish lingers nicely with all the flavors. This reminds me a lot of Hale’s BA Wee Heavy, but with a little more character. This is nice BA ale on the lighter end of the range. If it were local I’d buy some every year. Thanks, Kevin!

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Big and malty, medium sweetness, lots of oak. Not as much bourbon specifically as in other bourbon BA beers. Smooth and creamy, easy drinker. Works great as a "winter warmer".
