Rahr's Red is a delicious, medium-bodied amber beer. As it crosses over your tongue, you'll notice a bit of caramel-like malt character. You'll also notice a slight hops bitterness-there to remind you that despite its subtle flavoring Rahr's Red is a Texas beer.

12 oz bottle. Poured a clear dark amber with a thin cream top. Taste of caramel malts, slight fig and a little leather. Medium carbonation, medium body.

Reddish amber with very thin white head. Nice aroma, but the flavor was just okay. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Serving: from tap at Tolbert’s Restaurant. Aroma: moderate caramel malt. Appearance: small, creamy, off-white, initial head with good lacing and fully diminishing longevity. Hazy, dark-orange body. Taste: lightly sweet initial flavor and finish with average duration. Palate: light-to-medium body, watery texture and soft carbonation. Overall: good flavor and easy to drink.

OK but nothing to write home about. Best option of a very short draft list with Sam Adams, Blue Moon and Stella.

For some amber color with a small tan head. Light and easy drinking was hoping for a little more malt character.

A rich red in appearance with a sweet and floral aroma. Taste like a marzen octoberfest style beer to me but a little on the bitter side. Overall a good malty and sweet beer better than the native shiner to me.

Not the worst representation of a "red". Nice malt & caramel flavors, looks great in the glass but leaves you a bit wanting in the end. Overall, however, way better than most of the crap that passes for beer in an airport.

Reddish amber with a thin tan head. Aroma of sweet malt with medium body. The hops are noticeable with some slight bitterness. Clean crisp finish.

12 oz bottle This was enjoyed first at Billy Bob’s at the stockyards in Ft Worth. At a HP meeting in Ft Worth this was the beer served also at the Omni. The amber lager poured red-amber color with a small head. Aroma of caramel malts and modest hops. This beer is also called Buffalo Butt with a medium body and average carbonation. the amber lager has some bitterness, but not in a big way. Excellent with ribs and other Texas fare.

This may just be my favorite Texas amber lager. Plus, how can you beat a herd of longhorns on a beer label? Medium-dark orange/amber in color, this amber is bold, but bright with a very light brown/beige colored head and heavy, steady carbonation. Its aroma is just what you’d expect of an amber: lots of caramel and a great-matched bouquet of hops. Not too sweet, not too bitter, but just enough of both. It’s far from cloying with as much caramel as is in this, with more of a lighter body and a touch of burnt caramel, thankfully overriding that signature lager undertone. It has a full, attractive, sweet and earthy palate that ends very clean for a lager and leaves a faint whisper of fermented, malty sweetness in the mouth. Very nice for an amber lager! I’m disappointed that it gets such low reviews from other driners, though.
