COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Rahr's Red is a delicious, medium-bodied amber beer. As it crosses over your tongue, you'll notice a bit of caramel-like malt character. You'll also notice a slight hops bitterness-there to remind you that despite its subtle flavoring Rahr's Red is a Texas beer.

12 oz. bottle courtesy of a trade with crajun. Pours a clear amber with a moderate tan head that lasted through the first quarter of the glass and laced the glass well. Mild aroma of caramel and malt. The flavor is similar with mild caramel and malt, lightly sweet. A bit spritzy on the palate. Mild bitterness at the finish.

A lovely dark maroon brew that sports a fairly hearty head, which dissipates a bit too quickly for my preference. Lively scents and flavors of caramel, malt, toast, and toffee; and a slight reminiscent hint of warm flaky biscuits (yeah… Hungry Jack style). Not too hoppy … not too sweet. Good carbonation makes for a light, refreshing mouth-feel.

[Bottle] Pours a light amber color with a thin white cap of head. Sweet toffee, bread and caramel in the aroma. The taste is very similar. Mild hazelnut and grassy hops round out the sweet malty backbone. Prickly carbonation. Nothing majorly wrong with this one. Not very exciting, but at least it’s better than their Bock I just had.

Bottle. Pours clear dark reddish brown. White head. Nose of corn, sweet malt, bread, caramel and hops. Taste is flat - bread and corn with thin watery body.

12oz bottle labeled as "Buffalo Butt". Reddish brown pour with some off-white head. Aroma is roasty with some caramel malt - flavors of caramel malt, grain, and some bitterness.

On tap at Rahr Brewery. Pours a pale red with thin head. Bready malt notes stand out. Only a light bitterness to the taste, and quite light in body with minimal finish. Lacks the boldness and complexity of other reds - more on par with Killian’s than what I would expect from a microbrew.

Bottled. Poured clear, medium amber with a fluffy, sticky cap of beige head.. set up great in the glass. The aroma picked up soft bread and biscuity malts with light earthy accents.. just a little soapy.. very pleasant. The flavor found more of the bready sweetness at the core, kissed by a touch of honey.. mild leafy and dry earthy bitterness surrounded.. slightly tangy on the finish, with tasty caramel joining in. Light-bodied with tight carbonation on the palate.. well-balanced and very drinkable.

Bottle. Pours a deep red-brown with a white, large-grained head. The nose is very, very strange; something in it is reminiscent of a musty closet in which is stored several fresh fish. The taste is the same -- it’s not bad, exactly, but it’s very very odd. Elements of balsamic vinegar and herbal notes to the fore. I wonder if this beer is turned or infected...

Pours dark orange amber, clear, crisp appearing; aroma mild; taste is clean, more bitterness than expected; ok for first impression of Rahr tour

12oz bottle as "Buffalo Butt" from blutt59, thanks Bob! Pours a cloudy, medium brown, amber tinted body with a finger-width, frothy, off-white head that dissipates slowly and leaves a good amount of lacing throughout. Aroma is sweeter cereal grains and caramel, honey, and a bit of a fruitiness that gives off a slight acidity. Flavor is better. A bit more of a spice and herbal hopping to balance the sweetness of the caramel, honey, and cereals. Just a touch of fruit comes out at the end, but doesn’t give off the acidity from the aroma. Finishes very dry with a light-moderate, spicy bitterness that leaves a medium length aftertaste. Lighter body and somewhat watery at times with a moderately fizzy carbonation. Overall, a pretty bland beer, but easy drinking and a decent hop bite to it. Sessionable.
