COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Rahr's Red is a delicious, medium-bodied amber beer. As it crosses over your tongue, you'll notice a bit of caramel-like malt character. You'll also notice a slight hops bitterness-there to remind you that despite its subtle flavoring Rahr's Red is a Texas beer.

Available in bottles at The Backyard Grill, I had to look up the term ďVienna lagerĒ to find out what the heck was up. According to Wikipedia, the Brewers Association describes this style of beer ďas a reddish brown or copper colored beer with medium body and slight malt sweetness.Ē By this definition, Rahrís Red is a good beer and I know the brewery just delivered a fresh batch to TBG Ė but I cannot love it. Itís a true reddish amber color; but with a thin body (to me) and only very modest malt flavor to it. The taste did not wear well throughout the 12-ounce bottle.

12 oz bottle at Cowboy Chow in Roanoke TX - labeled at "Buffalo Butt". Pours a clear copper-reddish color with a thin head. Mouthfeel is smooth. Taste of caramel malts, toasted bread, and earthiness along with some grassy hops. Mild sweetness, a hint of sourness and a moderate bitterness. Nicely balanced.

On tap at the Brick Store. Arrives in a gorgeous Bellís tulip. Deep murky amber brown with a thick beige head with a rocky bottom fed by bubbles constantly. Lacing and retention are fantastic. Aroma is sour with lactic and tart fruits - cherries for sure. Plenty of brown sugar in the nose and some Brett and spicy oak. Whoa, the taste is seriously dry and funky up front. Some tart cherries and brown sugar follow behind. Lots of oak and dry earthy funk in the finish with a hint of lactic as well. Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied and seriously dry and tart on the palette. Solid carbonation to liven it up. Really impressed with this one. After the Oarsman disappointed I wasnít sure what to expect but this is a great sour from Bellís.

12 oz bottle from Ben. Murky red pour with little head that quickly fades away. Iím really not getting any noticeable aroma from this beer... very odd. Flavor is much the same way, Iím not picking up anything I can identify and what little I notice is immediately swept away by a very dry finish. Not a bad beer, just not much of one.

Dark brown pour with a white head. Malty nose followed an even richer flavor that has hints of nut in it. Smooth finish and a full body on this one.

Pours clear and quite red. Thin off-white head dissipates quickly. Smells skunky. This is my 2nd Rahr Offering (Ugly Pug Black) and it smelled the same way. Beyond the skunkiness, there is some roasted malt. No hops. Tastes skunky too. It carries right over from the smell. Beyond that, itís pretty watery. Thin and watery. This beer has an acceptable drikability despite itís shortcomings. Not really enjoyable, but itís not hard to drink. I really want to like this brewery because itís in DFW, but Iím afraid that Iím done trying thier less than stellar offerings.

Pours a dark red color with a white head. The aroma is mainly caramel malt. The flavor is caramel malt and toffee with some earthy hop flavor and bitterness. There is also some nuttyness in the flavor. Medium mouthfeel and slightly creamy with low carbonation.

(Draught at brewery) The beer pours a really nice red and amber color, but without any head and very minimal lacing. Color is great though. Nose is cascade hops, lager style aromas too. Taste is very odd. As with all Rahr beers the malt profile is bitter and I donít like that about them. It stays on your palette for a while. This is not one of their better offerings because the lager bite hurts the bitterness further. Maybe some cascade hops in the taste too though, not my favorite variety. Carbonation, weight, are all just average. Not bad or good.
