3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
From notes, 5/11/11:
Rep’d Cowtown all the way by pouring a 12 oz bottle into my TCU pint glass.
Aroma: Very average here. Smell of biscuity malt and slight hops. Typical amber lager here in every way.
Appearance: Nice amber color with a quickly dissipating white foamy head. No lacing.
Taste: Pretty typical here as well. Again, the sweet, biscuity malts. Slight hops in the finish. Got a little of the tartness that others mentioned.
Palate: A little on the thin side for an amber lager. Carbonation was light. Mouthfeel clean and a little thin on the finish.
Overall: Good session beer to support my local brewery with. Nothing special, but nothing wrong with it, either.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 9/20
A rich red in appearance with a sweet and floral aroma. Taste like a marzen octoberfest style beer to me but a little on the bitter side. Overall a good malty and sweet beer better than the native shiner to me.

Not the worst representation of a "red". Nice malt & caramel flavors, looks great in the glass but leaves you a bit wanting in the end. Overall, however, way better than most of the crap that passes for beer in an airport.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
12 oz bottle This was enjoyed first at Billy Bob’s at the stockyards in Ft Worth. At a HP meeting in Ft Worth this was the beer served also at the Omni. The amber lager poured red-amber color with a small head. Aroma of caramel malts and modest hops. This beer is also called Buffalo Butt with a medium body and average carbonation. the amber lager has some bitterness, but not in a big way. Excellent with ribs and other Texas fare.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
This may just be my favorite Texas amber lager. Plus, how can you beat a herd of longhorns on a beer label? Medium-dark orange/amber in color, this amber is bold, but bright with a very light brown/beige colored head and heavy, steady carbonation. Its aroma is just what you’d expect of an amber: lots of caramel and a great-matched bouquet of hops. Not too sweet, not too bitter, but just enough of both. It’s far from cloying with as much caramel as is in this, with more of a lighter body and a touch of burnt caramel, thankfully overriding that signature lager undertone. It has a full, attractive, sweet and earthy palate that ends very clean for a lager and leaves a faint whisper of fermented, malty sweetness in the mouth. Very nice for an amber lager! I’m disappointed that it gets such low reviews from other driners, though.

Had as Texas Red. Pours a slightly hazy mahogany with a thin eggshell head. Malty aroma has a cloves note and a hint of hops. Flavor features malty, cloves, hay, and subtle caramel notes. Smooth, firm, fizzy mouthfeel rounds out a decent beer.

3.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: JUN 6, 2013 Thin caramel malt character accompanied with a carbonation bite. Goes down easy. Tastes good, but kind of bland--but it’s what one would expect from 141 calories. It really started to grow on me after a couple bottles.

Purchased as TexasRed: Aroma of malts and fruit. Pours a red amber with a none lasting white head and moderate lacing. The taste is malty up front with a hoppy bitter finish. Medium body with medium carbonation. Overall, enjoyable. Would make a great Texas summer sipper.

Draught. A pretty lack-luster beer. Not much flavor detected other than roasted malts.
