Bomber shared amidst Snowageddon 2016. Had this a bit, I think it was from a Secret Santa. Thanks! Dark brown, medium sized fizzy tan head. Good retention. Aroma of toffee, dark fruits, a bit of oxidation. The taste is roast, oats, chocolate. Medium bodied, decent balance.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Rich, deep dark brown coloured body with hints of pure plack and a super large, slightly dense lighter brown head - showing some microfoam. Aroma of prunes, raisins, plums, earth, roasted malt, light cocoa and a touch of alcohol - more of a porter smell than an imperial stout. Full-bodied; Assertive effervescence with a deep roasty malt flavour, some subtle nuts and cream flavours with vanilla and prunes very noticeable. Aftertaste shows more of the pitted fruits with plums, apricots and even concord grapes coming through with a large malt note and some cream near the end with all the bubbles still hanging around. Overall, this is definitely more of a Baltic Porter than an Imperial Stout, and it’s not a bad beer overall, just keep expectations in check and you’ll be okay - not worth searching out for nor cellaring for a long time - it would probably explode in a few more years time, given the carbonation now at a single year. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Central Market in Austin, Texas on 06-May-2014 for US$6,99 sampled at home in Washington, just a few hours before leaving for Texas again on 31-August-2015.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Cask with cocoa nibs and mint sampled at ACAT 2015. Pours a deep black with bubbly tan head. Aroma of big roast over dark chocolate and earth. Taste follows with a nice cocoa finish, no real mint there for me. Good balance and light bitterness, thick mouth, soft carbonation, solid stout.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a black with a thick khaki head that left a lot of lacing. The aroma is dark roasted malts, sugar, coffee, chocolate. The taste is very similar to the aroma. Great beer.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Sample at ACAT. Pours black, with a bubbly, brown head. Nice aroma of coffee and bitter chocolate. Cinnamon and molasses follow. Sweet, with almost perfect hop balance. Heavy body, sticky, and surprisingly dry. This is an excellent stout!

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours opaque coffee brown with a decent light tan head. Aroma has roast malt, chocolate, nutty, and earthy notes. Flavor rolls roast malt, chocolate, caramel, and earthy tones across the palate. Texture is firm and smooth, if not too fizzy. Get snowed in - just don’t get too "snowed."

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 ounce bottle
Doing a side by side of the original release with a bottle from the next year shows that three years seems to be the sweet spot before this starts to slip. Before that point you should experience a solid imperial stout that borders on sweet like an amped up oatmeal winter warmer.
Aroma / Appearance - A ivory head bobs above the ruby red base. At its core the beer retains a deep black heart. Dark malty tea, rich thick malts, and oated coffee hang out with a laid back feel that comes for a few years of cellaring.
Flavor / Palate - Coffee and malts cling to the corners of the palate with sweetness. Fresh tea leaves warm the throat as the experience carries to a clean bitter finish. Unlike big imperial stouts this feels more refreshing than harsh. For 10% ABV it certainly drinks like less. Thanks to the trader(s) who sent me the bottles.
