COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
During a fierce storm on his voyage across the ocean, William Rahr could be heard yelling from the tall masted ship: "Roll on old sea! And when you are done, when the storm clouds have destroyed themselves, we will still be standing and drinking!" Today, we have created the ultimate ale for a voyage such as this: A German-Style IPA - a traditional India Pale Ale with German Influence. Our German-Style IPA is brewed with a blend of all German malts, hops, and yeast. It has a rich maltiness with both floral and spicy hop characteristics. So get ready and hang on - Stormcloud will see you through your roughest seas and straight on to smooth sailing. Editorís Note: This beer was reconfigured in 2009 with new hops and yeast.

12oz bottle. Rich amber color. Thin aroma of roastiness. Taste is overwhelmingly of sweet caramel malts. Not a lot of hop action going on. Pleasant, even tasty beer, but not very IPAy at all.

Rahrís beers are underrated. All of them have a signature caramel character. This one included. Itís not a great IPA, but itís a delicious beer.

Draft at the Brewery The IPA poured a clear amber with a lasting white head. While at the brewery there was a strom cloud that dumped rain for about 15 minutes. I also tasted the unfiltered version as well. The aroma was of earthy hops. There was balanced bitterness with average carbonation. All beers tasted had an excellent medium body and were well made. The finish was dry with a slight lingering bitterness.

From a cask at GingerMan Ft. Worth. I don't smell much of anything. I don't know if it's the smoke in here or what, but it's weak; can't smell anything. It tastes super sweet. I immediately think apple cider. Not what I would consider a "traditional" IPA.

Bottle poured a clear reddish amber with a lasting amber head. Aromas of carmel, earthiness and woody hops. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of carmel and earthiness with a smooth dry lightly bitter lingering earthy finish.

Comes out of the tap a clear, appetizing amber, not much head but that is from the pour. Aroma is more malty than hoppy, not too strong but inviting. Flavor, happily, exceeds wheat the aroma promises, hoppy and woody with a fruity and malty undertone. Sweetness balances the evergreen bitterness. Mouthfeel is firm, rough and fizzy, leaving a lively, hoppy finish.

Definitely not the west coast IPA I was in the mood for, but very clean malty sweetness with apparent hop character.

Dark copper pour with thick khaki head. Lots of thick lacing. Very malt aroma for ipa. Lots of caramel and bready/toasty Munich malt aroma. Mild yeast aroma. Earthy and grapefruit aroma. Well balanced flavor. Definitely more of a European ipa style but a little more bitter and hop forward. Lots of caramel. Earthy hops. Pretty dry finish. Mild yeast flavors. ---Rated via iPhone

Had it out of a bottle, poured a nice frothy head and a strong hop taste with a good bitter finish!

In my top 10, would buy again! Good, strong hoppy bite, nothing like Iíve ever tasted before. Next up in the custom 6 pack is Stash.
