It is not your typical strong ipa. It is probably a good beer to introduce someone to IPAs. I will agree that this is a good barbeque beer. Keep it cold.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Stormcloud is a clear-bodied bright orange-colored brew with an off-white head thatís kept thin, but steady, by moderate carbonation. It has a sweet, hoppy aroma thatís gentle, but still stands up to the style. In the mouth itís a little creamy. The bubbles from its healthy head and airy body pop on your lips and in your mouth a little.
I expected a harsher hop punch from this, but itís actually very gentle. I know many American Pale Ales that are heftier than this. You can definitely tell that their attempt to Germanize this IPA was a success. Its flavor reminds me more of a German lager than an IPA, and its body also puts on such an act. A hint of bitterness remains in the finish, but not enough, in my opinion, to hold up to what I expect of an IPA.
Donít get me wrong - itís a great beer. It should probably be more properly labeled, however. If it was, youíd go in to this beer with a completely different set of expectations and would probably end up enjoying this beer more. Then again, thatís assuming youíre a hop head.
Overall, this is a very smooth and gentle IPA with an interesting twist that should be acknowledged when drinking this beer to fully appreciate what the brewersí intentions were.

I normally have problems drinking IPAs as they are so hoppy that I am reminded of grapefruit juice. I have avoided the IPA out of respect for grapefruit juice. Until today... Rahr and Sonís has changed my mind about the Indian Pale Ales with Stormcloud.... Pours light copper, with a beige-ish head... The flavor reminds me of summer with light grassy and hay overtones, and a touch of malt. I think this would be best drank ice cold on a hot day, while BBQn with friends. Rahr and Sons is a wonderful beer.. unfortunately they have not made it out of Texas... yet..

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle while enjoying some barbecue in Dallas. Light amber color with a medium white head. The nose is pretty faint, some sweet grains, light hay and some floral hops. The taste is moderately sweet, some light grass. Relatively strong malt presence, rain water. Medium body, easy-drinking. Overall, this was refreshing as it was 100 degrees outside, but without much flavor to speak of.
