COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
During a fierce storm on his voyage across the ocean, William Rahr could be heard yelling from the tall masted ship: "Roll on old sea! And when you are done, when the storm clouds have destroyed themselves, we will still be standing and drinking!" Today, we have created the ultimate ale for a voyage such as this: A German-Style IPA - a traditional India Pale Ale with German Influence. Our German-Style IPA is brewed with a blend of all German malts, hops, and yeast. It has a rich maltiness with both floral and spicy hop characteristics. So get ready and hang on - Stormcloud will see you through your roughest seas and straight on to smooth sailing. Editorís Note: This beer was reconfigured in 2009 with new hops and yeast.

12 oz. bottle via trade with rougeau13 - Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a one and a half finger thick off white head. Light lacing. Aroma is a real light toasted malt. Thatís it! Flavor is pine and citrus hops, and toasted malt. Finish is kinda astringent. Medium body. Worth a try. Thanks Jared.

Sampled at Schlafly 2012 Repeal Fest. Pours clear copper with a small off-white head. The aroma has dry caramel, very mild hoppiness and an overall muted quality to the aroma - not much I picked up. Medium body with light graininess and mild carbonation. I expected the flavor to pop out more than the aroma, but its very minor as well. This is mainly caramel malt that is a bit on the sweet side and really doesnít showcase hops for something called an IPA. The finish has a small bit of spicy / spicy hops, but this is still very malt forward. I wondered if this was an old keg they brought.

Enjoyed on-tap @ the Schlafly Repeal of Prohibition Festival @ the Schlafly Bottleworks in Maplewood, MO. Tapped from the Black/Silver Tap Handle into a 16oz Schlafly Cup. Aroma- Has a VERY skunky, hop aroma from the beginning and Americans hops towards the finish. Doesnít hit the nose hard but on the contrary, have to search for these attributes. Appearance- Received with a 1.5 finger, bubbly head that dies fairly quickly. Has a dark reddish copper body with good clarity. Leaves tons of suds behind. Flavor- Very complexed and tough to break down all of the flavors... Tons os citrus and pine mixed with American hops. Medium-High Bitterness. Couldnít find any malt present either. Mouthfeel- Medium Bodied, Medium Carbonation, Smooth, and has a very pleasant grapefruit finish. Overall Impression- A very hoppy American IPA but not balanced. Needs more malt and not too many types of hop that you are not able to distinguish between any of them. Still enjoyed and would have again but many more at this festival to get to!

Draft sample at Schlafly Repeal of Prohibition Festival 2012. Pours a golden-amber color with a finger of off-white head. Faint aroma of grassy hops, pale and caramel malts, and cereal. Flavor is mostly the same with a little more spice and bitterness. Light-bodied, with moderate carbonation. Not much going on in this IPA.

Sampled at Repeal. Gold and copper. Aromas and flavors of floral european hops and yeast. Balance could use more malt but they are scarce. That makes for a thin offering.

Clear amber with a frothy off-white head and nice lacing. Mild aroma of bready malt, grass and some caramel. The taste is mostly pale malts with a moderate spicy bitterness. Medium bodied and slightly dry. It seems like more of an unusually bitter bitter than an IPA to me. I guess in that regard, it would fit better under English Pale Ale here...

Bottle - deep gold, some head, lacing. Not exactly a hop bomb here. Seems too malty for an IPA. I guess thatís where the German style comes in. Medium body and a somewhat dry finish but forgettable for the most part.

Pours a beautiful golden color with a nice thick head. The flavor is more reminscent of a traditional english IPA than an american one. Nice subtle hop flavors.
