2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle: Amberish, cloudy, huge fluffy off-white head, nice lacing. Hoppy aroma, slightly dank and basement like. A little vegetable like right up front, pale hoppiness. Kinda smells a bit like turkey taco farts. Don’t ask... Body and mouthfeel are moderate, albeit it is fairly smooth. Backside is a little cardboardish and musty. Not a real sharp IPA, but tiz alright. Not overly hoppy either. Probably more like a PNW Pale Ale. Thanks for the bottle Bill!

UPDATED: JAN 25, 2011 IPA blasphomy! Not sure if it was the 2009 reconfiguring or what but I did not enjoy this beer. I realize most english style IPAs are much more subdued then their West Coast bretheren, but come on! Where is the flavor and aroma? Subpar at best. In one work - meh.

Pint on draft during a brewery tour. This was a decent beer but for an IPA i was expecting a little more hop favor and aroma. Maybe the brewery doesn’t dry hop??? The malt was at a good low level for an IPA. Pours gold with white cream head - a little hazy. Good dry bitterness on the palate.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 8/20
12 oz bottle courtesy of Cavie. Hazy dark gold pour with a firm white head. Aroma is... pizza? Very doughy malts, and for some reason I get tomatoes in the nose. Not very much hop presence for an IPA. Slightly funky taste. Bready malts and a piney bitter finish. Mouthfeel isnt bad, light-medium body with good carb. Not awful, but a little bit weird. Not sure that a "German-style IPA" was primed for the best results. Tastes like an overly hopped Oktoberfest.

Thanks Mike for sending this my way!
A- This is one beautiful IPA- uniformly translucent light murky amber hue. Pours with a nice 1-2 finger soapy white head. This has perfect retention at 1 finger and leaves lacing behind all the way down the glass.
S- Nose is mild but pretty standard for an IPA. Herbal hops, pale malt, and a hint of citrus.
T- Taste is much milder and less exciting than the nose. Only pale malt and a hint of herbal hops upfront. The finish adds a mild touch of pine-but mostly pale malt sweetness, mild to moderate bitterness and hop resin.
M- Medium carbonation and light to medium weight moderately smooth body.
D- This isn’t a very good IPA and its an "eh" brew overall. Glad I tried this-but wouldn’t be reaching for it regularly in TX.

The beer pours an orange-amber color with a white head. The aroma is toffee with some grassy hops and some floral notes. The flavor is heavy on the floral hops and biscuit malt. I also get some grassy and earthy hops and some malt that makes the beer taste a bit like unsweet iced tea. Low bitterness. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Dark gold pour from bottle. Very little head. Watered down taste of citrus and hops. As far as IPA’s go, this was fairly disappointing. Just not much here.

Snifter. clean and clear orange-yellow color. white head, with good retention and lacing. nice light citrus hop aromas. smells like pilsner malts. decent flavor. some citrus hops and breakfast malts from the german-style IPA. smooth and crisp. easy on the carbonation. mild body. big pilsner flavors. easy to drink, but slightly confusing palate.

2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
12 oz bottle from Ben. Dark golden pour, about a finger of head that quickly fades. Very slight aroma, a little bit of citrus and maybe some malt. Slight hops bite, with a touch of malt to balance it out. Touch of bitterness to the finish. Another small profile beer from Rahr. I might be missing something.

NOTHING on the nose. when I say nothing, I mean nothing.. IPA is supposed to have some hops on the nose. shove this under my face, blindfold me, and I dont know a beer is in front of me. it is THAT absent and lacking.
taste... well... kinda tastes like it smells. nothing. While I am excited that Rahr put out a beer that is over 5% (can tell because the label actually says Ale rather than beer) this is a real failure. I can see what they are trying to do here, make a beer that the mass oblivious texans would buy in place of the BMC products, but for someone that likes beer, dont buy it.
