COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
During a fierce storm on his voyage across the ocean, William Rahr could be heard yelling from the tall masted ship: "Roll on old sea! And when you are done, when the storm clouds have destroyed themselves, we will still be standing and drinking!" Today, we have created the ultimate ale for a voyage such as this: A German-Style IPA - a traditional India Pale Ale with German Influence. Our German-Style IPA is brewed with a blend of all German malts, hops, and yeast. It has a rich maltiness with both floral and spicy hop characteristics. So get ready and hang on - Stormcloud will see you through your roughest seas and straight on to smooth sailing. Editorís Note: This beer was reconfigured in 2009 with new hops and yeast.

12 oz bottle from Ben. Dark golden pour, about a finger of head that quickly fades. Very slight aroma, a little bit of citrus and maybe some malt. Slight hops bite, with a touch of malt to balance it out. Touch of bitterness to the finish. Another small profile beer from Rahr. I might be missing something.

fresh bottle... NOTHING on the nose. when I say nothing, I mean nothing.. IPA is supposed to have some hops on the nose. shove this under my face, blindfold me, and I dont know a beer is in front of me. it is THAT absent and lacking. taste... well... kinda tastes like it smells. nothing. While I am excited that Rahr put out a beer that is over 5% (can tell because the label actually says Ale rather than beer) this is a real failure. I can see what they are trying to do here, make a beer that the mass oblivious texans would buy in place of the BMC products, but for someone that likes beer, dont buy it.

Amber, not much head. Not much aroma for an IPA either - seems to be mostly malt. Taste is bitter with some hops flavor.

CASK at Gingerman in Plano. Pours amber with a creamy off white head. Aroma of toffee candy and floral hops. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Flavor of toffee and caramel malts countered by a spicy bitterness. Dry and hairspray like finish, which loses some points

Draft. Amber in the glass with a creamy off-white head that had a thin layer lasting. Subdue hoppy aroma. The flavor had caramel, toasted malts, and a hop background. Light body and light bitterness.

Poured from bottle. Nose is floral more than citrus, with an almost-violet overtone. Color pours dark for an IPA; a rich amber with an even moussy head. The taste is rich malt and an odd, almost medicinal overtone; the hops bitterness comes through on the close, and the carbonation is cleansing and light. If it wasnít for that phenolic/boozy/medicinal thing going on, this would be a great IPA. As it is, itís just okay.

A: The pour is a clear amber color with a moderate off-white head and some spotty lacing. S: The nose is rather mild with some sweet orange notes as well as a bit of sugar and light malt. T: The sweet, orangey sweetness is in the forefront with perhaps floral notes. Other than the rather "light" hoppiness, there are bready malt flavors and a touch of bitterness on the finish. M: The body is medium with a somewhat low carbonation and bit of a "flat" mouthfeel. D: This was not a very impressive example of an IPA. Lackluster flavors and aromas, and I wasnít a fan of the mouthfeel either.

Thanks Cavie for sending. Pours a soft hazy peach with a one to two finger creamy head. Nose is piney and herbaceous, some age, malty, caramel. Flavor is malty with a medium bitterness, some corn, grassy hop character. Palate has low carbonation and a metallic bitterness.

Bottle pours a hazy orange amber with a thin off white head. The head leaves quickly but laces well. Aroma is caramel, toffee and some sewer water. Has a dedent carbonation. The flavor is differnt at best. Has a metalic sweetness. Not much in the way of hops. The body is light. Has a watery texture. The finish is weak with not much of an aftertaste. Not awful but not good either.

bottle thanks to cavie. poured hazy orange with no head that i can mention. let me start also by saying that this was in the freezer for about an hour and a half because i forgot it was in there. aroma was caramel malt and a weird dirty diaper like smell. flavor was very grapfruit and citrus. not really a very good ipa.
