COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
During a fierce storm on his voyage across the ocean, William Rahr could be heard yelling from the tall masted ship: "Roll on old sea! And when you are done, when the storm clouds have destroyed themselves, we will still be standing and drinking!" Today, we have created the ultimate ale for a voyage such as this: A German-Style IPA - a traditional India Pale Ale with German Influence. Our German-Style IPA is brewed with a blend of all German malts, hops, and yeast. It has a rich maltiness with both floral and spicy hop characteristics. So get ready and hang on - Stormcloud will see you through your roughest seas and straight on to smooth sailing. Editor’s Note: This beer was reconfigured in 2009 with new hops and yeast.

Thanks Cavie for sending. Pours a soft hazy peach with a one to two finger creamy head. Nose is piney and herbaceous, some age, malty, caramel. Flavor is malty with a medium bitterness, some corn, grassy hop character. Palate has low carbonation and a metallic bitterness.

Bottle pours a hazy orange amber with a thin off white head. The head leaves quickly but laces well. Aroma is caramel, toffee and some sewer water. Has a dedent carbonation. The flavor is differnt at best. Has a metalic sweetness. Not much in the way of hops. The body is light. Has a watery texture. The finish is weak with not much of an aftertaste. Not awful but not good either.

bottle thanks to cavie. poured hazy orange with no head that i can mention. let me start also by saying that this was in the freezer for about an hour and a half because i forgot it was in there. aroma was caramel malt and a weird dirty diaper like smell. flavor was very grapfruit and citrus. not really a very good ipa.

(Draught at brewery) Pours opaque orange with nice lasting creamy head. Nose of citrus hops, grapefruit and dirty water. Taste matches and that signature Rahr ’bad water’ character is here as well. Finish is creamy, but quite bitter as well. Not really that drinkable, but depending upon the day I might have 2 if they were free at the brewery.

Thanks to Blutt59. Appearance: Ever so slightly hazy orange with a small white head. Aroma: Slight spice, wet cardboard, lemons, pepper, malt. Flavour: Agghhhh - the initially sweaty flavour made me shudder, bitter, lemon, chemicals of some sort, paper and leather.

Fratto (2524) - Arlington, Texas, USA - SEP 13, 2009
UPDATED: SEP 19, 2009 I still need to have the 2009 brew as I was unimpressed with Stormcloud before. Not enough hops and a strange aftertaste.

*Not much of a change from the <2008 Stormcloud. A little thicker than I remember exchanged for a little less taste but more hops. I can’t decide which is better.

Another ericandersnavy production. Pours light copper with a fluffy white head of large bubbles. Aromas of lightly roasted malt and spicey/grassy hop. Medium body with loosely frothy carbonation. Flavor is kind of like a bready hoppy pilsner. The grassiness renders it slightly astringent. Sort of demonstrates how beer styles can move together. Finishes bitter, and really enjoyable. Not a NW hop bomb, but it’s bitterly bitter, and that is what counts.

12oz bottle from Cavie poured into a pint glass. Pours hazy orange with a medium off-white head. The aroma is a fair amount tamer than I was hoping, with a touch of malt and corn, maybe some bread in there. The flavor is slightly sweet with a touch of hard minerally bitterness and a hint of hop flavor on the finish. This really is a more traditional style IPA, not American. Thin-ish body and medium carbonation.

This is a bud light with an extra .000001 ounces of hops. Not sure why they call it a IPA. Not a good beer at all.

Bottle from Rollinhard. Hazy light orange amber pour. Bready malt and hop aroma. Smooth malt taste with a spicy hop bitterness. Kind of like a hoppy marzen.
