During a fierce storm on his voyage across the ocean, William Rahr could be heard yelling from the tall masted ship: "Roll on old sea! And when you are done, when the storm clouds have destroyed themselves, we will still be standing and drinking!" Today, we have created the ultimate ale for a voyage such as this: A German-Style IPA - a traditional India Pale Ale with German Influence. Our German-Style IPA is brewed with a blend of all German malts, hops, and yeast. It has a rich maltiness with both floral and spicy hop characteristics. So get ready and hang on - Stormcloud will see you through your roughest seas and straight on to smooth sailing. Editorís Note: This beer was reconfigured in 2009 with new hops and yeast.

UPDATED: NOV 17, 2015 Floral, spicy hops and grain in the aroma. The taste is similar, with muted (for an IPA) hops and a good malt backbone. Dry finish of chewed-out peppermint gum. Goes down easy.

Sampled at GABF 2015, In the tasting glass orange with some brown highlights. Nose of fruit and floral hops. Medium maybe body. Flavor is caramel malts, some citrus and floral hops, and some fruit Moderately bitter finish. Seems clearly a English IPA rather than a west coast one we see so much these days. Very nice drinking.

On draft. I like the color and head. Hop flavor is just ok. Lots and lots of malt up front. Itís not as bitter as a west coast ipa but it still has decent hop bitterness. Itís an ok IPA that I wouldnít go out of my way to buy. If thatís all the IPA the bar has then it is good enough to drink more than one.

Bottle. Hazy Amber orange pour with a white soapy head. Sweet earthy malts with a hint of spice. Too malty for my tastes.

Draft at DFW. Hazy copper, firm pillowtop. Starts malt-forward, not unlike a Festbier. Then thereís the slightest of American hoppy twists. (#6060, 11/13/2015)

Hazy orange color with thin white head. Nice sweet malty aroma. Hoppy with a light malty flavor. Pretty good effort by R&S.

Rated based on notes taken 23 Aug 2012 -- an okay IPA. Focuses on bitterness and crisp body rather than the "IPA experience". Itíll do but thereís better out there.

Lagerboy (1738) - British Columbia, CANADA - APR 6, 2015
355 ml bottle. Unclear brownish orange, fine tan foam settles and mostly fades. Milder aroma of Noble hop and caramel. Well malted caramel/toffee taste, moderate herbal/floral/spiced hop, some citrus. Average carbonation, light-medium body. Nice enough for a British style IPA made with German hops and brewed in Texas. LBW (Lagerboys Be Wary)
