3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 AndresTM (268) - Texas, USA - NOV 27, 2012
Bottle. Malty aroma of molasses, figs in syrup, caramelized sugar, walnut bread, and a bit of milk chocolate. Exciting and rich — pop the cap, and the sweet aromatics permeate the air around it immediately . The taste is lighter than the aroma, with some sweetness, followed by a tinge of bitterness and alcohol, and a finish that’s a little on the dry side. The mouthfeel is medium-thick, with soft carbonation that becomes lathery on the back of your tongue. I liked it quite a bit — I expected worse.

Tap at Mellow Mushroom, Spring. Pours an average brown with a nose of caralized leaves, bready molasses, and ligh strawberry. Flavor is crispy leaves and caramel on molasses bread. Average mouthfeel. This beer aims for average and hits the target.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 5000 (4967) - Hardened Liver, Washington, USA - SEP 30, 2012
Bottle:   Deep caramel, thin frothy off-white head, little lacing.   Nutty whole wheat bready aroma.   A little toffee and caramel as well.   Soft sweet nutty start, a bit bready but not too heavy, slightly mealy.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   For a Doppelbock its a little light.   Finishes not too heavy, mealy, bready in a whole wheat sense, but at least its clean.   Thanks for the bottle Bill!

Draft. No clue what I was ordering other than it was a new Rahr listed on the Flying Saucer chalkboard. Fine doppelbock, rich malt flavors and full mouthfeel. Nice.
